Some black and white shots from the Cufflinks.com dinner at Trencherman.

An Okay but Too Expensive Dinner at Trenchermen
I had been willing to try Trenchermen for a while as it was "supposed to be good". I had seen the 3.5 stars on Yelp, but my friend recommended it and the bad reviews didn't seem to be for things I would care about.
Life buddy and I shared 2 small plate and a big plate.
The pasta in broth was very delicious. 4.5 jujus
Our waitress recommended the tater tots. Ok, they were a little different, because of the cool foamy like yogurt but frankly it was heavy and not very interesting. 3.5 jujus.
I tried my friends oats and eggplant dish. Okay but nothing spectacular.
At that point my phone died before I could snap a photo of the porchetta we got, but frankly it wasn't that interesting so I won't bother digging a picture for you.
Overall the food was not bad, but not very interesting either and the bill was quite expensive.

||| UN DJs ||| w/ special guest Dave Vettraino of Public House TONIGHT at Trenchermen
Joining us on the decks for the first time at Trenchermen (and maybe also the first time in his life?) is residual Uncanned family member Dave Vettraino, the recording engineer responsible for the complete series documentation of Spontaneous Composition in the vault at The Bedford. Vettraino's regular gig is at the controls for Public House Sound Recordings, a recording studio slash record label that he operates out of his home in Logan Square. Superior taste and an impressive eclectic record collection are the assets he'll bring to the tables in the Trench Bar tonight; come join us for another episode of laymen entertainment via vinyl selections by a professional listener.
Vinyl DJs every Thursday evening, 830pm to midnight at Trenchermen (2039 W North Ave, Wicker Park, Chicago, IL).
Challenged by Trenchermen bartender Jonah Frank to make a drink with schmaltz, kosher rendered poultry fat, Griffin Benko of Lone Wolf wanted to take a road less traveled—it seemed "too easy of a route" to make an infusion with the fat, he said. Moreover, while he was set on creating a seasonal beverage, standards like eggnog or the Tom & Jerry seemed a little tame for winter in Chiberia. Instead, Benko turned to what he considers an "underappreciated" classic cocktail: the warm ale flip, an egg-based drink that's been taking the chill off since the 1860s.
Check out his recipe for the You're Killing Me, Schmaltz.
So while I am still semi-working the events staff at Nellcote, Cicchetti is getting into full swing and working with this amazingly talented and city praised Chef Michael Sheerin is the best part of my job. The PR staff is working on promo videos for the kitchen at our new location but this was his Reader challenge from last year with Trenchermen and I found it interesting simply because I am a nerd and I love food.
