Bits and Pieces

I have been messing about with several little projects at the same time and of course not really paying them the concentration that I should, but there is no money attached to any them only my entertainment.

Drawing machine, I have added a pulley system that rotates the paper platform, driven by the idler gear or either of the driven gears.  The gears are arranged on an arc of a circle whose centre is that of the paper platform so that the pulley system needs only one size belt for any of the gears. see also https://tmblr.co/Z31wKw2IAmJzm

Trianglism, This was the movement before the cubists, objects being seen as a series of triangles rather that a series of cubes.

Three dimensional objects can be made from concentric triangles rotated and sat one on the other.

Trinket box, made from scrap to test the cutting of wood at an angle, I have always thought it might be fun to make a mountain dulcimer.

My studio.

My kitchen, a cursory glance will reveal that kitchen and studio are the same, this is good in terms of space utilisation but a bloody nuisance if you don’t want to eat sawdust or get cooking oil on your artwork.

Concentric Shapes II.  ‘Balance’

Second in a small series of objects made from the rearrangement of concentric cuts from a piece of plywood this being the square.  The first in the series being made from equilateral triangles, the ‘Trianglist Tree’.

It is interesting when you start to rearrange concentric shapes the first thing that comes to my mind is rotation and of course being a bit linear as I am, the angles of rotation between each layer is usually the same and the layers increment in size linearly.  In this case however I have settled on translation across and down for the increasing size layer and across and up for the decreasing layer.

The title ‘Balance’ comes from the fact that most elements of the structure are paired with the central square being the only singleton, the centre of gravity is within this square and so the object is finely balanced, minimally disturbed and it falls.
