!!!!! Salmon eggs!!! 》 Trichia decipiens

AAAHHHHH. MY FIRST TRICHIA.

Sorry for yelling, I just. This is my second consecutive first ID of a highly anticipated genus! Yesterday I found my first bird nest fungus and now! My first trichia slime mold!! I am a very happy camper. :') ❤️

Regretably, I did not have my DSLR with me on this excursion, but if I have the time I may return with it tomorrow. Just look at that lovely color! 😭🙏

Art af svampedyr (Trichia decipiens)

På stub af gran. Den kraftige orangerøde farve gør, at man kan spotte dette svampedyr på ganske stor afstand selv inde mellem træerne her i den mørke tid.

Slime Mold species (Trichia decipiens)

On the stump of a pine tree. The bright orange-red colour means that this slime mold can be spotted even at some distance in between the trees despite the dim light this time of year.

Trichia sp. slime mould

Slime moulds aren’t actually fungi, though they were previously considered so, and I don’t know what species they are, though I’m fairly confident they’re a Trichia sp., being macroscopically similar to others in the genus. I just enjoyed the way they looked like Halloween themed hundreds and thousands on the forest floor.

This is a Trichia slime mold, so it’s actually neither a plant nor a mushroom, but I wanted to share it anyway because it’s cool! Trichia slime molds are true plasmodial slime molds, and the structures seen here are their fruiting bodies full of spores. Like most plasmodial slime molds, they have two phases of life: a microscopic amoembic phase as a single cell with a single nucleus, and a macroscopic phase as a single cell with many nuclei, formed by many cells fusing together.
