Couchsurfing? Consider These Important Bangkok Tips
As part of my 2-week-backpacking challenge, I decided to try out couchsurfing. This is really interesting as it works well with backpackers on a shoestring budget, thus, couchsurfing gives you the opportunity to save from having to spend for your accommodation. And I did it! I just couchsurfed in Cebu City, Philippines. (Hooray!) Thanks to McRolly by the way.
Well I actually got the idea from close friends who have tried couchsurfing, and together we joined the community of couschsurfers through the couchsurfing community. Its just so cool meeting new people that you share the same interest with backpacking. Members in this community offers their couch to backpackers who wanted to explore different place without having to spend much.
As first time couchsurfer, of course there are few things you would need to consider especiallywhen we speak of safety, it should come first of course, here are some practical tips to consider to ensure your safety while couchsurfing:
Do your research- remember your dealing with a complete stranger, so a little digging deeper is highly encouraged. Further, even if you see a good feedback your possible host, asking around regarding the host is a good start.
Keep important numbers Make sure you keep important numbers in your pocket like police, tourism department, etc. In this manner if things goes wrong, you know where to seek help.
Be vigilant always observe your surroundings, it pays to be always on guard.
Let your family know where you are going- leaving important information of your planned travel into your family is important as it would be easier for them to track you down in case something unlikely could ever occur.
Plan B Always have an alternative, should you feel not secure in your hosts place, it would be great to have another option.
Lastly, anything can go wrong, so make sure to be ready, however dont forget to enjoy, which is the very reason why you re on travel, to satisfy yourself with so much beauty and comfort. So have a blast of goodness backpackers!
