The one member who never really believed in the cause or always thought the mission foolish and hopeless and was very loudly cynical and always said they weren't doing this for the cause, still sacrificing themselves/getting badly hurt in order to help them succeed @erdarielthewhumper
So one of the things about epic adventures and quests is... usually you need to walk. Maybe quicker than you'd like, to outrun the bad guys' plans. Maybe in hostile country trying to keep beneath notice. So your legs get ever more tired, the blisters turn raw and bleeding - but when an ambush leaves one of your group gravely injured, you lie awake half the night with them, assuring them and yourself that you won't leave them, you'll wait, you'll wait till they're better - crow, @comfort-questing
"Come on," The leader shouldered their pack and gently nudged the other. "We've got a long way to go before we can get you to safety."
A character unexpectedly runs into someone or something from their past on their journey (or maybe just something similar to their past. Either way it brings back memories that they’d rather not think about).
