Troubleshooting Error 1601 In Windows
Sometimes when you are installing a software in your system, you might face some issues during the installation process. Error 1601 is an error that most users come across during the installation of software programs. It is a Windows installer error and the Windows installer service is required for the installation of applications. This error pops up because the installer might be in use by another program and another possibility of the error cropping up is if you are using an earlier version of Windows. Shutdown processes
If any software is currently being installed, you need to either complete the installation or close the process.
In order to open the Task Manager, you need to right click on the taskbar and a menu will pop up. From the list of different options that is present, you need to select Task Manager.
The tab titled Process has to be selected and then you need to choose Show Processes From All Users.
You have to be on the lookout for processes that are running with names like setup.exe, msiexec.exe, uninst.exe, isetup.exe or IsInst.exe. For every process that you see, you need to select it and choose the End Process option.
Now after all the processes have been stopped, you need to run the installer again.
Service re-registration
You need to click on the Start button and the Start menu will pop up. From here, you need to choose All Programs and select Accessories. From the list of options that are present in Accessories, you need to right click on Command Prompt and choose the Run as administrator option.
In the Command Prompt window, you need to enter Msiexec /unreg and you need to press the Enter key. By doing so, the Windows installer service will be unregistered.
Again into the Command Prompt window, you need to enter Msiexec /rereg and tap the Enter button. Now the Windows installer service will be re registered.
Now you have to try running the installer again.
