Continuing my month long series of posts with images made in New Mexico with the Great Divide as my focus or jumping off point: here are three images of the Elephant Butte Dam and reservoir.
Since I went to this location about seven and a half years ago, I copied the same three views done then—which you can see on this old post. I'll repeat some basic information here:
The Elephant Butte Dam, constructed between 1911 and 1915, is situated here on the Rio Grande River, not far from Truth or Consequences...this dam provides power and water for irrigation for the state as well as for a portion of neighboring West Texas.
The water level has come up a bit from the fall of 2018, which is good I reckon. Three images by Richard Koenig; taken April 4th 2026.
