"It's alright, thank you..." Kotone smiles and sits down beside Yui, the other girl already looking somewhat exhausted. ""It's okay, I used to do the same thing, I think... Must just be one of those mornings, huh?"

"Here...." Yui's voice raises her voice loud enough over the faint rings of the phones and chatter at the station. She had been on her usual errand run, dropping by the police station to give her uncle some food...Before making a stop by Adachi's desk. She had picked a good time since everyone was busy as she placed something on his desk. It was a pretty box considering, an origami crane underneath the ribbon with Happy Birthday written inside once unfolded. There was a cake inside for him...Baked and decorated by both Yui and Nanako with strawberries. Her eyes were averted away from his and neck was starting to turn red as she stood in silence before muttering something and walking off quickly. "Happy birthday Adachi-san." // @truthseekingxaffection​ One good memory he atleast had in Inaba that wasn’t related to death was the attention he got from the small family his Boss had. Sure, Adachi hated his job, but there being people who cared about him ... enough to let him have dinner with them, and even ones who celebrated his birthday - it was the one good thing in this shitty world. Head raised as he head Yui’s voice, eyes dark and tired as he was surprised to see her here in the station. If anything she was probably just here to drop off something for Dojima, but it was nice enough that his favorite brat had decided to see him. ‘ Huh, what’s this? ‘ He’d ask, peering over at the box. He took the crane, one of Yui’s favorite things to do, he remembered, and unfolded it.

Ah- that’s right. Today was his birthday. Adachi never really cared about his birthday in all his thirty nine years, but the ones he had in Inaba were diffrent from his childhood. His parents never celebrated it that much, and atleast with Dojima he’d go out drinking with him. Opening the box did he see the cake, clearly home baked since it didn’t seem to be the same quality if it were to be store bought. The tiniest of smiles would press against his lips, looking up at the Fool and noticing her cheeks were getting red and her eyes were avoiding his gaze.  ‘ Yui- Chan, ‘ He’d call out as he saw the silvertee turn around on her heel to quickly walk off. ‘ Why don’t we do something tonight? Dunno if Dojima-San wants to go drinking, but you know I won’t say no to my favorite brat. ‘

Fingers pitched at the cigarette as the tired cop ground it ‘gainst the ash trash. The sound of a light knock ringing through out the small flat he had afforded to live in all these years in the country was enough to finally catch his attention and break him out of his own thoughts.  Letting out a final exhale as he leaned his head back to let out the smoke from his lips did he get up. A bit of a small struggle what with the living room not being much of a tidy space. A few cans of alcohol here and there as he sat underneath the warmth of the kotatsu, the vintage TV just buzzing the usual news as it sat low to the ground. Adachi almost wondered just who the hell was knocking on this door at this time of night. Normally if I’d be Dojima he’d give him some sort of call before hand, but usually it was the rookie himself who’d find himself mooching off and going to his Boss’ house to get a meal or two. Not to mention whenever he’d go there he’d always have the chance to see the man’s cute daughter and his niece. Grunting did he make his way to the door, unlocking it first before opening, letting in a waft of cold autumn air. Tired hues lifting did he see that it was Yui.  Ah, now it was coming back to him. A smile crept onto his lips, delighted to see the highschooler.

‘ Yui-Chan, you really came huh? ‘ He’d ask, beaming with tired eyes. Even after everything the two had been through what with that TV killer case their bond had still been something that was kept in tact. Even though Yui knew exactly what was behind his facade they still kept in contact - even if most of it was a secret. Adachi had almost forgotten that he had asked Yui to come visit him so his night would be less boring. Apart of him hoped that the silvertee had brought something for dinner, since all he ever seemed to live off of was instant ramen and anything he could get from Aika’s if he had to fend for himself. Just the thought of a cute girl cooking for him was enough to give him excited butterflies. Adachi would step to the side, giving the teen room to come in as he reached out to brush against her shoulder, gesturing for her to come in. ‘ Come in, make yourself at home. ‘ Despite everything he was seeming...a bit overly friendly. // @truthseekingxaffection​

Never before had Teddie seen his Sensei like this. Since the day they met she had always been a strong pillar holding the team together, always knowing what to say and staying calm and collected even in the most dire of situations. It was how they caught their killer, after all.

But this symbol of strength, this shinning example for the bear to follow, found herself with her walls down in front of someone that pledged allegiance the most.

It wasn’t the first time. Cracks to these walls became apparent to the bear before, especially in the last few months. Living together merely made them more obvious at times. That first week Teddie stayed over, when his Sensei fell ill, was the first time he watched over her instead. He was not used to someone else relying on him so much, and even with their friends’ help he had multiple sleepless nights so she had all the attention she deserved. This was the least Teddie could do after all his Sensei did for him. 

Even after she had been cured of her cold there were moments where her mood wasn’t as bright as usual, moments where her guard came down. Teddie asked her how she felt whenever he could. At first these questions were to confirm to the bear that her health had truly gotten better but they never truly ended. Something was off.

Tonight the walls finally came tumbling down. Teddie didn’t know whether it was due to an event earlier that day or an accumulation of emotions that couldn’t hide themselves anymore, not that it mattered right now. The person he called his Sensei was now crying in his embrace. 

“...”

Thoughts ran through the bear’s head. Thoughts on what to do, what to say, but none of them changed his actions. His arms wrapped around her tighter without any words coming out. 

Sensei was the one that always knew what to say, not him. Sensei was the one that always knew what to do, not him. The blonde’s throat tightened as his mind continued to look for words it couldn’t say. If it wasn’t for the hug, his hands would’ve begun to shake. All he could now is offer a sturdy shoulder to empty out all her tears. It wasn’t good to keep them bottled up, even Teddie knew that. 

“Sensei...” Finally he spoke up after Yui began to turn quiet, “...I won’t leave you. I’ll stay as long as you need, no matter what.”

“Come on....A few more steps,” Yui gently urged Naoto as they managed to make their way towards the bench close by the temple. Easing the other down she sighed as she offered a weak smile to her.

“You might wanna avoid putting pressure on your ankle for a while,” Yui told her, “We can rest here for a little bit and I can walk you the rest of the way home.”

“Alright, th-thanks Yui...” Naoto winced with each step, letting out a sigh of relief as she was finally able to sit down. She was normally a lot more careful when she walked, but she’d been so distracted in conversation with the other girl that she’d failed to notice a pothole and had tripped, hurting her ankle. 

She wasn’t sure yet if it was broken or just sprained, but the area around it was visibly swollen, and for the moment, it was painful just to stand, let alone walk. “I’m glad you were with me, I’m not usually this clumsy...”

“W-well, um...  if it still hurts to walk, I suppose that would be an option...”

Naoto blushed deeply at the suggestion, though whether it was at the idea of being carried or at the idea of being so close to the other girl was uncertain. Regardless, the detective gently leaned against the other, keeping her leg elevated for now in the hopes that the pain and swelling would subside.

"I'm sorry Yui, this is my fault. I should have been more careful."

“…I hope you had a happy birthday.” A vacation, to her special place. Specifically they were staying at the Amagi Inn this time, but Yui had hoped Inaba’s peaceful lull was relaxing for Ren. She wanted to share the place that she held dear to her heart and where her journey took place. Sliding a box over she chuckled a little, “It’s not much, but I hope you like it.” Her signature crane was inside but there was a framed art piece she had commissioned. In the glass display was his mask with blue butterflies entwining downward to what looked like her old glasses…The Fools arcana in the middle. (@truthseekingxaffection)

"And here I was thinking you weren't the type to get super sentimental like this." Ren jokes as he looks at the silverette with a warm smile. While he enjoys the bustling of a city like Tokyo, sometimes, it was just nice to slow down for a bit. The Inn has been very courteous to them, unsurprising given the close bond Yui had with the Innkeeper. But this? This art was something he never would've fathomed she'd get made. Not because she lacks the skills or the talent, but because it's not really her style.

"It's beautiful, and I love it. Thank you senpai~" He utters the last word with a teasing tone, much like an idol she happened to know.
