Alien Transmission
A random placing of words to create a rather suspicious sentence made into a poster
October 8, 2017
Today’s assignment was to take a chunk of text and turn it into a table on indesign. The function of the assignment was to help us learn table-making on said program. We didn’t really have any other guidelines to follow, other than making sure it was legible for people of all ages and laying it out in a way that made sense. I decided to follow the idea of a pamphlet and in my head, this would be the inside of the pamphlet, following a three-fold set-up.
I think at this point, it’s obvious that I like to work with blues, although this one is a bit green-tinted. I find that blue is a calmin colour, so if someone is all stressed out, trying to catch their bus, the blue might help them keep it cool.
I used a combination of Futura Medium and Futura condensed medium for my font and felt that despite only using one font, the contrast was slight enough to provide some texture and hierchy for the reader’s eye.
I think that the most challenging part of this task was coming up with the concept and layout. I wasn’t sure exactly how I wanted to lay out my information and began at first with my bus names on the left and my times for said busses going left to right. I ended up choosing the vertical layout to better fit the day pass information underneath.
I had no idea that I could make tables so easily in Indesign before this assignment. I thought it was a much more difficult process and it was interesting to learn about. Despite taking a full class on InDesign last year, it’s important to remember that there are a lot of things that can’t possibly fit into the span of a three month class and I should start looking tutorials and discovering the program on my own time.
