Finally Tryst with his daughter
Fakes (Netflix 2022)
Amelie (the name I give her)
Richard Harmon is the cure for modern shitty movies.
Modern movies have had problems with reusing the same actors over and over and over again. The Rock, Jack Black, Ryan Renoylds, Jenna Ortega. Actors who just play themselves for practically every single role they're in.
The Rock plays the same old buff meatball who raises his eyebrow and shows off his muscle. Jack Black plays the same quirky "silly uncle at Thanksgiving" character. Ryan Renoylds plays thr same sarcastic and funny guy who breaks the 4th wall and who constantly cracks jokes in serious situations. Jenna Ortega plays the same "goth girl" who has sass and can fight perfectly, but she has a vulnerable side that appeals to the guy character she's usually targeted for.
"But how is Richard Harmon gonna fix the movie industry??" You might be asking! Well. Let's get into Richard's past roles.
His most known role is probably John Murphy from The 100
Now I personally haven't watched it yet but I know a lot about the character. John Murphy is (as Google describes because again, haven't watched the show yet, take this one with a grain of salt) "a complex character from the post-apocalyptic TV series "The 100". Initially introduced as a selfish, violent, and cunning antagonist, he undergoes significant character development, transforming into a morally gray anti-hero and eventually a reluctant hero. His journey is marked by a constant struggle for survival, a tendency to prioritize his own needs, and a gradual embrace of compassion and empathy, especially towards children and those he cares about"
"But Matthew! That's a tv show! Of course he's gonna have time to play a complex character and actually be able to act" Okay. Then let's go to,
Alex Taylor from If I had Wings
Alex Taylor is a blind teenager who has dreams of being a runner, though he needs someone to run with that can keep up with his speed so he can join the cross country team at his school. Alex is a sweet character but also strong. He goes through a tough time but still pushes through to make his dreams come true and win the race at the end of the movie on his own, without the help of his unlikely friend Brad.
Though Richard certainly looks the same between The 100 and If I had Wings, the characters he plays between the two media's are completely different. It shows that Richard has the range that so many actors nowadays don't really have. Need more examples? Let's compare,
Trystan (Tryst with a Y) Smith from Fakes
And
Alex Wright from Grave Encounters 2
Now these two don't look too much the same as Tryst rocks a grown out bleached hair look and Alex has more 2013 look to him, but it's not just their looks that differentiate the two characters.
Tryst from Fakes (though again, I haven't finished the show, it has gotten spoiled for me) is a fun character, he's like the Jessie Pinkman for the show, he's shown as a father figure for the two main characters who he had a close friendship with. Though he's shown to be a funny character, he's also an incredibly sad character. He has a biological daughter he's not really allowed to see and doesn't have the best ending cliffhanger in the show. He's complex and Richard plays both parts of Trysts complexity perfectly!
Alex Wright is a film student who clearly seems to think of himself as a movie professional, having a youtube movie review channel where he speaks about his opinions, even going as far as trying to make his own movie to show that he could fix the movie industry. It isn't long before Alex goes through some traumatic events throughout the movie and eventually becomes one of the antagonists by the end of the movie as he starts the spiral and lose his mind. You can really see Alexs desent into madness portrayed amazingly by Richard!
Tryst and Alex are very clearly different from each other but they're also incredibly different from Richard's other roles. His range between horror movies, inspirational movies, and comedies are clear represtation of Richard's acting talent!
In conclusion, we need more actors like Richard instead of just reusing the same actors who reuse the same character roles. This was a ramble by Matt ♡♡
