Most of the... experiments that Joshua ever saw were his age, or maybe just a little older. The process seemed to work best when the subject was a child, and from how everyone ever spoke about the program it had always sounded like he had been one of the first.
Except he knew that couldn't be the case. Bahamut had existed years before him.
So it shouldn't have been that surprising to find a man in the labs one day that didn't look like he was one of the scientists. Maybe he was? But he lacked the telltale white coat that they all wore, didn't seem to be carrying around any sort of datapad to take notes, and he also didn't seem to have a complete aversion to actually looking at Joshua and acknowledging that there was someone else in the room with him.
Telling ages was hard. Joshua himself was... he wasn't sure, a realization that felt like it hit him like a truck and had him freezing in place for a moment. Sixteen, seventeen...?
Eighteen. That... sounded right.
Either way - the man looked a little older than that.
❝ how did you get in here ? ❞
"The door was open." It was always so awkward trying to introduce himself to the others, mostly since Joshua rarely saw them more than once before they just... vanished. Failures, likely dead. One arm looped around his stomach, the other reaching up to scratch at the side of his neck. "... Who did they put in you? I got the Phoenix. Kind of a raw deal, really."
No point trying to pretend like they weren't lab rats.
