So that when the Night Mothers rise from the roots of the mountains to eat the sun, you can give them this bread. So that the Night Mothers will call you their daughter, fall in love with you, and feed you with the milk of their breasts. Milk that will allow you to speak with Vishap. The same Vishap on which Tsovinar sits in the sky when thunderstorms come. If you have seen lightning, then you have seen Vishap. Your grandmother calls the wind Saint Sargis. But that is simply Tsovinar, rushing down from the mountains. The Night Mothers sing her praises.

Translations can be ... tricky sometimes, often when reference books dangle tantalizing information in front of you but fail to include what the original words actually were. I wrote to a friend last night the following (and luckily got a response to clear everything up):

Here is a poem with Armenian folklore terminology that I worry I might have translated wrong. There is a belief that "the soul is made out of light, the spirit is made out of fire" but I couldn't find different words for soul vs spirit. Also, there is the concept of "Hogehats'" which the book I was reading calls "Soul Bread", holy food for the dead. The book also mentions hag-like creatures called Night Mothers (there was no transliteration for this terms) which comes from a folktale about them rising up out of the mountains each night to try and eat the sun (I suppose the personification of the night), finally the winged serpents the locals call vishap, but my dictionary simply translates as "dragon" (I don't know if there is a better terms to use).
