Those are not prisoners. Those are not subjects. Those are boys, and you are harming them!
Look man, I just really don’t feel well.
Ezra Miller in The Stanford Prison Experiment (dir. Kyle Patrick Alvarez, 2015)
Blow it out your ass, Mr. Correctional Officer.
One of the tricky aspects of this scene was that we wanted to create a sense that a lot of violence was happening without actually showing anything. No one was actually ever really severely hurt, bruised - there's no blood. And so, for the first time in the three films I've made, we decided to shoot in slow motion to create this sort of otherworldly feeling that what's happening is actually worse than it really was, which is a lot of what happened during this experiment - it was really in their heads. - Director Kyle Patrick Alvarez, Anatomy of a Scene: The Stanford Prison Experiment
[This overhead shot] is easily the most complex shot in the film. We wanted to kind of create a really strong spacial relationship of what was happening in this hallway, but also give the impression that we the audience were looking down on this experiment like as if they were rats in a maze. - Director Kyle Patrick Alvarez, Anatomy of a Scene: The Stanford Prison Experiment
