Sunatsukki is the vibe of doing debate in high school and seeing a debate kid from another school at a tourney and being like 'oh he's cute' but not really doing anything- maybe following each other on instagram but not actually talking. And then you run into each other at a grocery store a couple years after graduation, settled into your college lives, maybe a few miles from your hometown. The other person looks vaguely familiar and maybe it would be less awkward to just ignore them but for some reason you start talking and finally figure out how you know each other. The conversation isn’t entirely unpleasant so you exchange numbers. You go home with the hot cocoa mix your new friend got you and a warm feeling in your chest, the promise of something new.

"Is that a ring on your finger?"

Tadashi blurted out, staring straight at the hand that Kei picked up his mug with.

"Yeah."

"When did you get ENGAGED?!?"

Tadashi's voice screeched their Kei's phone as he wrinkled his nose.

The cat sitting to the right of him on the couch cushion perked her head up at the noise, glaring back at Kei to make it stop.

"The lady of house isn't pleased with all the noise you're making."

"I DON'T CARE, TSUKKI!"

Throwing out the high school nick name, Kei was very amused as he took a sip of his drink and let the visibility of the ring linger just… a little more.

It was a silver band with three small diamonds embedded in it, /just/ flashy enough for Kei's taste.

"You know how we were staying in that ryokan in Kyoto this weekend? Rintaro proposed to me there."

"And you're only telling me now? I'm your bestest friend in this entire WORLD."

"It's been two days, Tadashi."

"Two days too long, give me every single detail."

Ah, Kei thrived when Tadashi was being so aggressive and nosey.

"Such an evil smile on your face, babe."

Surprise Rintaro kiss on the cheek, "who are you tormenting this time?"

"ME, he's being rude to me!!!!!!!!"

"Oh?" Rintaro squished cheek against his fiance's as he looked at the phone screen, "what'd you do?"

"I didn't- oh my god, just tell me about your engagement! I swear to god I will go to Shizuoka now."

"I asked, he said yes," Rintaro's lazy tone only had Tadashi groaning from his own couch, "did you tell him we're doing a thing?"

"I haven't agreed to the thing, Rin."

"I haven't either, but Tsumu will murder me if we don't."

"What thing?!?! Hello????"

Kei found himself a bit too lost in pretty green eyes to really answer, plus Rintaro was /so/ close and he wanted to kiss him.

So he put the phone face down on his lap and did so, still riding on the high of his lover asking him to be his husband…

Marriage wasn't exactly high on Kei's list, but he wasn't put off when it came to Rintaro. The thought of calling Rintaro his husband… it made him /happy/.

From meeting at nationals where the middle blocker certainly caught his eye to ending up in the same gaming group with Kenma to Rintaro sending silly memes in DMs… it kinda snowballed from there.

Rintaro picked up the phone after a few moments of smooching and saw that freckles was still there, "we're doin' an engagement party… thing, our place. Next Saturday. You'll get the story then."

"You know he's going to call me right back?"

"Ohhhh probably, Tsumu is going to blow up my phone too…" Rintaro gave him one last kiss on the cheek, "bedroom, five."

The best distraction, obviously.
