American jewelry designer Joan Hornig graduated a Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard College with her Bachelors of Fine Arts. During her time there, she worked simultaneously as resident freshmen proctor, a capital campaign, and academic adviser. She went on to receive her Master of Business Administration at Columbia Business School in 1984 and continued her non-profit education.
Hornig began teaching art at an elementary school momentarily before starting her career as an educational administrator. Joan served as a Director of Corporate Relations and External Affairs at Columbia Business School before she entered Wall Street where she learned the ins and outs of marketing, hedge fund, private equity, operations, management, administration, and consulting. During her 20+ years experience she would make jewelry as a hobby which captured her passion for art history and decorative arts.
In 2003, Hornig founded Joan Hornig Jewelry combining her passion of art and philanthropy. Her company’s motto is Philanthropy is Beautiful and 100% of profits from the purchased jewelry is donated to the charity of the buyers choice through the Joan B. Hornig Foundation. Traveling around the world she finds her inspiration for The Joan Hornig Philanthropy is Beautiful collection and all pieces created use 18k green gold, sterling silver, and precious and semi precious stones. Over 800 nonprofit organizations have received donations from Joan Hornig Jewelry varying from the arts to environmental protection and everything in between.
