I have Thoughts about TSMWEL but there’s still one thing I don’t get: what’s with the Jehovah’s Witness suit? I see the first verse to be Taylor singing to her younger self who envisioned rising to the top no matter the cost, and present day Taylor almost resenting her for being so naive.

But the Jehovah’s Witness suit throws me off. Any ideas? Is it just a reference to innocence? Are JWs known to be innocent? I don’t know much about JW but another thought is the toxic positivity of other high control religions, like Mormonism. I’m not sure if JWs have the same culture of “turn that frown upside down”. But it must mean something because it’s so specific. She wouldn’t just throw that in randomly.

Sometimes I lay awake at night thinking about how Evelyn is so similar to Taylor...how taylor wore a green dress just like Evelyn and how the author confirmed on Twitter that she was inspired by taylor???

I didn’t know the author confirmed it??? But god me too! Reading The 7 Husbands really changed my perception of how Taylor presents herself in the public eye. Like yeah sure we see her holding hands with this man and that man, and she writes her songs with random little nods to vague characteristics of these men that media jumps on as proof, but really we have NO idea what is going on behind the scenes. Bottom line is she is an extremely smart, extremely talented woman, and she will sell the story she wants to for whatever reason she wants to or feels like she has to, and we can try to speculate and try to figure it out, but we will truly never know, unless of course this “all gets declassified in 50 years”

Just thought I would share something I noticed on my drive to work this morning

SHS isn’t about any one of her relationships that have or are “working out.”

Even if you read it as a happy song (which you really can’t - no glitter gel pens in the TTPD room) it is very clearly not about anything happening presently because THREE songs later, she says in The Prophecy that she thought it was the real thing, the “lightning in a bottle” but it didn’t work out, it wasn’t real, the story is repeating itself, like it always does, because “…it’s gone again.”

I have a LOT more thoughts about SHS, which I might post later, but this has been eating away at me all day
