Love the idea of engines being enamored with children as a concept. Like, engines are very static beings, they remain the same size and shape their whole lives. (not counting specific overhauls) So the idea of ‘Aww humans start as little things! 🥺🥹’ is just fascinating and adorable to them.

Traintober Day 29: Overhaul
You ever think about how Rheneas’ overhaul took nearly a decade? Don’t worry, he isn’t in pain or anything here, just very sleepy.
Overhaul is like a state of hibernation. Time passes around the engine as they are disassembled into their individual components. They grow more and more tired the less whole they are, until they fall into a slumber so deep that life all but disappears. But overhauls are not at all painful. Each piece is taken apart with care, all with the benevolent intention of putting things back better than they ever were. When at last the engine is complete, their dormancy ends. A face reemerges as life resumes. With a final yawn the engine wakes up, feeling better than it ever had before.
G'day I have a question: Any thoughts on the North Western Railway having a total of eighty locomotives? According to The Island of Sodor: It's People, History and Railways.
It seems pretty reasonable to me and is super fascinating! In a way it helps the world feel more lived in, the implication being that the stories written are only a mere slice of life to a bigger picture. It leaves plenty of room for fan interpretation and OCs too! There are so many unexplored branch lines like Peel Godred, Kirk Ronan, and Harwick. It’s also likely that many of these locomotives are for redundancy’s sake. Not all of them necessarily have to be running at a time. This is a revenue earning railway that needs to be able to operate at all times. Some may be preserved and not actively used for standard traffic. Some examples would likely include Neil, Bloomer, and Aubrey. There are also many other locomotives not even part of this 80 that still inhabit the standard gauge rails! Bill, Ben, and Mavis are all privately owned, and there may be more like them. We also know that plenty of mainline diesels visit to assist with container traffic. Sodor is a very lively place indeed!
