How do the muses celebrate their birthdays?
🚗: Before Fitz was surrounded by the found family he has now, he usually kept it very lowkey. Honestly, he didn’t really have any close friends before them, some acquaintances and regulars at the shop, and a sort of on-and-off fling with Roman, but no consistent company. He usually would close the shop and work on a personal project of his, some vintage car in the restoration process most likely. Once he wore himself out, hed clean up the shop and cook himself a nicer dinner than usual, something a little more decedent and indulgent. He’s watch movies in bed with dinner. Honestly, you probably couldn’t tell that it was his birthday if you were a fly on the wall, but it was nice enough.
But now with his newfound friends, he probably at the very least gathers with them to have a small party and dinner in the garage of his shop. He’s a simple man, really. He won’t turn down big gestures, but he doesn’t need them. Good food and a warm energy is all he needs for a good birthday.
🦋: Before Henry had both his gaggle of friends, as well as his two(and a half?) darling husbands (Oswald and Harvey), he often went back and forth on how he went about celebrating his birthday. It really just depended on how his mental health and self image was at the time. Some years he did absolutely nothing, and if anything, set out to make the day all the more miserable for himself, but some years he would buy himself bags of new clothes and take him and couple of his “coworkers” out to dinner and get whatever caught their eye.Now with his friends and newfound wealth via his husbands, pretty much every year is like the latter of the previous examples.
With Oswald and Harvey, it’s an evening of fine dining and glittering attire, Henry throwing on his loudest and most confidence boosting outfit, often with bright deep reds, or harsh blues, often highlighted with black and white. Harvey and Oswald have never failed make an event of the evening, even if it’s just the 3(sometimes 4 if Twoey feels like participating) of them all night. After a large expertly prepared meal, it’s typically gifts or shopping or both, and then the three of them take to a hot tub and, well I’m sure you can gather the rest.
He typically will have his birthday with his friends the next day, which is often much less classy and much more extreme. They all likely gather takeout from some roughly middleclass restaurant and absolutely destroy it before taking to the streets causing general [mostly] harmless chaos. Graffitiing the Narrows even further, setting off fireworks general mischief, and knowing Henry and his friends, likely some atrocious impulse tattoos.
☕️: Due to the unfortunate and unique nature of Pickering’s childhood, Pick cannot recall a clear memory of celebrating their birthday. He believes there was some sort of occasion when he was very young, but barely holds a picture in their head of what it was like. Honestly they didn’t have a strong knowledge of when their birthday was until just before their 18th, since they went looking for their birth certificate after [REDACTED].
Now that they have a proper and loving family, however, their birthdays are some of the happiest days of their life. It’s typically a stay-at-home celebration, food from whatever restaurant they choose, thanks to their darling (adoptive? Step?)father, Edwin ( @e-l-c-kingor Kingor ), and bio-father, Jon ( @miasma-of-fear of-Fear ). These nights in of eating dinner with their messy household are some of their most cherished memories. It’s not often they feel important or holding any sort of value to anyone (even if they are told how much they are loved quite regularly), but these nights always seemed to be an exception. Seeing proper effort being put into making them feel loved and care for, especially from Jon, did wonders as far as how they saw and treated themself.
