Tumblr Response Reflect
My thoughts about writing and rhetoric from the beginning of the first semester to now have not changed at all. At the beginning I knew what the term rhetoric meant. It means the art of persuasion and I had already learned about this in past classes. If I compare writing and rhetoric they go hand in hand in helping to organize a well-constructed paper. If I were to contrast writing and rhetoric then writing can be more of a story as where rhetoric is used more to persuade.
With Multimodality and using mixed media, I learned that it can help get your point across in any situation, for example, by using a graph in an essay or pictures in a magazine. I do believe that multimodality played a huge influence in my understanding of what rhetoric means. With just an essay with nothing but text, it seems less persuasive but with multimodality it grasps the reader’s interest and they see it as actual evidence.

So for this one we had to read chapters 8 & 9 in WIT which talked about how to construct an effective argument. Also the criteria that is needed to build an argument. I put this as one of my top choices because I learned so much on how to develop a strong argument and how I used this in my communications class when I needed to do a speech. It also helped me to check that my argument met the criteria and made it a valid argument.

For week 8 reading response I learned about integrating evidence. I chose this to be my second top work because just from reading the chapter it relates to all the assignments that I will have in future classes. I need to have authority credibility to advance my argument or a final draft. This evidence can be graphs, statistics, charts or quotes from a well-known source.

For week 6 on chapter 4 in the book WIT it talked about the types of reading processes available to students when writing a report. I chose this as my third top work because it’s always good to know that you are aware of what you are reading and make sure it’s valid. I still continue using the research database method. I find myself becoming more interested as I read and wanting to go beyond the boundaries and explore more in order to improve my knowledge.
I thought it was very beneficial using tumblr instead of blackboard because tumblr is a social media app that others can follow and be followed and be able to share others opinion. If it were on blackboard it limits the audience as to who can view your work, also on tumblr you could play around with including GIFs or comedic pictures that relate to your work.
What I liked most about tumblr is that we are our own discourse community. We all end up developing a lexis of our own the more we share and educate each other. I would not change anything about my tumblr experience because I have really enjoyed using it throughout the semester. I also find myself going on tumblr for my own enjoyment.
I am going to miss this semester and all the interesting people I have met. It was fun while it lasted.
