How To Get Your Music Heard As An Independent Artist
If you follow my #feedthestreetsfriday series then your probably thinking “I need one more hard as beat for my mixtape and Tune didn’t even come through”. I spent the holidays with my family and away from computer which is why I didn’t release a new instrumental. But it will be up on website within the next 24 I promise.
As for our subject today, as an indie artist you probably frequently ask the question “ how I get my music out to new listeners”. Instead ask yourself where do you find new music? Most people use streaming services like YouTube,Pandora,Spotify, etc. Or they download them from music blogs. It’s actually really simple to get your music to these providers your first few steps should be to:
- Have High Quality .wav and MP3 format of your track(s) that are mixed (unmixed songs can do a lot more harm to your brand than help).
- Submit your songs to a publisher such as CDBaby or Tunecore. Publishers will submit your music to online music stores and streaming services alike for a small fee and will also collect royalties on your behalf.
- Send your music to places who accept open submissions once the are published. Streaming services like Pandora only accept published content. And popular music blogs like Nahright accept music submissions from indie artists all the time
- Stop spamming people with your music! If you needed to borrow $20 from a stranger how would tell them? Consider this when deciding how to introduce yourself to potential social media. If they didn’t say yes would just copy and paste the same response in the next conversation? Be smart, and build relationships with people. Like or retweet something they’re promoting. Just don’t give the dry ass “Yo wats good fam, check my new mixtape here’s the link you won’t regret clicking it I promise”…they’re not your fam yet, and 9/10 times they don’t give a shit about your new mixtape. You have to become a politician on a campaign. Not the guy on the corner screaming at people as they walk by to buy what he’s selling.
I hope this was helpful. If you have any questions you can hmu here:

Soo..for anyone who is still unaware, I am the Founder and Creative Director of this "Abstract/Fucksociety" madness. My brands focus on the duality of life. The pains that accompany the gains of life, " the good with the bad " if you will. The first installment of this concept be through the release of my debut EP via Spotify & Apple Music entitled "Confessions of a Young American Teenager" at the top of next year. It's taken me 2 years to create this project, I had a hand in the production as well. I'm really proud of what i created & I hope you all enjoy it as well. In the meantime you can log on to Abstractarticulation.com to check what's new from me or follow me on: Soundcloud.com/tunetheabstract Twitter.com/tunetheabstract Instagram.com/iaredope And find a new instrumental to download each and every Friday for #feedthestreetsfriday on: YouTube.com/tunetheabstract Peace
This week for #feedthestreetsfriday I'm releasing another from the vault. Enjoy
