okay so mostly what you have to know is that the final boss of terraria is a being called moon lord [who is cuthulu] who is describes as "bassically god" and there is a cult that worships him. [theres also the evil biomes, the corruption and the crimson, but those are more background notes] SO. while playing i ended up thinking [probably too much] about how the goal of the game is to kill god. As You Do.
enter Nox! my silly little creature who was created directly by the universe to kill moon lord. i have decided this is because moon lord was beginning to cause reality to collapse in in itself. cancer style. nox is having A Lot Of Emotions about this and also the fact that they exist at all. my anxious little immune system <3
nox is also, importantly, not a human being, but rather a trinity of divine/flesh/machine and this has caused them to have funky biology and a tv head that sometimes turns off to reveal teeth and meat pulsing underneath, and also star hands. nox is formed like this because they are a fusion of two other beings, van, an ex-cultist with some magical ability, and hex, a machine constructed by the god of machines to house a piece of divinity and then die. nox is extremely aware of the fact that for them to exist two other beings had to stop existing. theyre so very normal about it and do not have any guilt over it whatsoever.
however, the fusion wasnt quite complete, and so sometimes nox splots back into van, eho has become the core of flesh, hex, who has become the center of machinery, and also a new being who is the core of divinity called sol. all three of them are not supposed to exist so existing causes them constant physical pain only lessend by eachothers presence. after a while they become nox again. all of them are incredibly suprised by this information and all of them are really normal about it trust.
anyways. nox does sucsessfully kill moon lord because they litterally do not have a choice in the matter, and end up absorbing his divinity and have to leave the universe for a bit to ascend so that they dont become an autoimmume disorder. their already existing nature as a trinity coupled with the sheer ammount of power theyve absorbed, found, or just made on their own causes them to become the Core Of Everything, making them techically the most powerful being to ever exist. sort of kind of mostly
nox, however is mostly unaffected by this because while they are Everything now, nox, the creature and soul, are jjuuust seperate enough from The Core that they can exist as a sort-of-separate entity, and allwowing the van/hex/sol [or vhs] trio to also still exist sometimes. nox can dip more into Everything but each time they do it the sort-of-seperation thing lessens and brings them closer to nonexistance so thata like a Super Mega Last Resort thing. also if they die their body just reforms and theyre mostly fine if it dosent happen to much so why would they do that because respawn mechanics because this is still terraria. mostly.
and thats about where things are now :D

Mark's uncle is a priest! Father Lucas Bernard is the head priest in the Sommerville Community Church, and the townspeople all look up to him as a pretty reliable listening ear who's also very knowledgeable about scripture. Mark in particular admires his uncle a lot and aspires to join him in the priesthood in the future.
and there's surely nothing wrong with that. the Father is a gentle, trustworthy man. there's no better role model for that boy.

stupidest things marks ever done pre story
hmm I wouldn't say he's done super horrible bad things but definitely stupid things that teenagers do when they don't have much inhibitions or knowledge of consequences.
so maybe... one time Cecil had the awesome idea (probably made while drunk) to make a trip to a nearby lake for a swim. in the middle of winter. in Sommerville. and Mark just went along with it because their reasoning was "it's so stupid cold in here all the time we should at least get to go for one swim". they picked the lake instead of like any swimming complex where the water would be heated because they didn't want anyone else to be there (and partially because Mark is trans and they didn't want anyone to make a fuss about it)
they nearly got hypothermia. almost drowned. Mark felt his life flash before his eyes there lol it was Horrible. never doing that again
but if they did die in that pool at least Mark and Cecil would die together. and Mark's- he's not fine with that, obviously, but there's some peace in that, they think.
