The News Image by Tuesday Productions: (Partial) Digitized Reel. Used in the '80s by WOC/KWQC-TV
This is a partial reel from Tuesday Productions. The entire digitized version is around 70 cuts. Unfortunately, a few areas on the tape suffered damage so quality is poor in a few of the cuts. Another reel was found with it called "News Image Update" but unfortunately most of the tape was damaged and is unable to be repaired. It seems that in the 70s and 80s, Tuesday Productions was a big deal. I have had a very hard time finding any info on them.
John Williams - The Mission Suite Movements 1-4 (Themes to NBC Nightly News, Today & Meet the Press)
The Mission suite was written by John Williams in 1985 for NBC. Various programs have used parts of the suite as their theme, including NBC Nightly News, Today, Meet the Press, NBC Special Report, and others. The Mission consists of four movements:
0:00 I. The Mission 3:28 II. Fugue for Changing Times 5:24 III. Scherzo for Today 7:16 IV. The Pulse of Events
For as well-known as John Williams and NBC News are, I was surprised I couldn't find the complete suite together anywhere on YouTube. I was also surprised that I couldn't find any good audio for Scherzo for Today, in particular.
The suite is a masterpiece, and in my opinion, the best set of TV themes ever written. I thought it deserved to be heard in its entirety, so I compiled them together myself with the best audio quality possible. Enjoy!
CW: loud 1970 ident; sexual content involving ITV regional company logos
My favourite detail in the BBC Olympic Breakfast titles: the red pulse emanates from the red BBC News logo.
And now, for my Pres Peeps, the UK’s Channel 4 has recently updated its presentations, and while I hate the “Brand Identity” terms with every fibre of my being, it’s a fascinating look at what you can do to a loved Icon and still keep it recognisable.
Also, I WANT THAT HORSEFERRY FONT! :D
Confession
I am a Nerd. Specifically, a TV Pres (Presentation, as in the bits between programmes) Nerd. It has come to my attention that Last night, the BBC HD channel met its end, to be replaced with a new simulcast of BBC2 in HD.
As a last treat for Pres geeks, the time when this airspace was to stand desolate was, in fact, dedicated to a showing of the HD Test card and A/V Synch test.
Sadly, I've been out of the loop on Pres Geekery for a while, and missed this entirely. Boo! :(
Still, If any of my followers like the bits between the programmes, let me know! Also, let's hear your Nightmare Logo stories, Wooooohhhh! >8D
