hot take time there's this ongoing dialogue of how damon wouldn't let so-and-so sacrifice themselves/not put themselves first and same with klaus and like. sure. maybe. but we are ignoring the issue of how that would happen. damon and klaus are not the kings of communication. damon's "wouldn't let" type shit is him going behind peoples back and fucking shit up and then shrugging off the consequences, which often lead to more problems. klaus' "wouldn't let" means he's going to damn near kidnap you. let's not pretend that they'd magically be more communicative / less themselves based on another love interest (TO START OUT WITH!). their canon love interests and friends and family have fought them on these things before. constantly. introducing a new girl into the dynamic does not automatically fix these issues. you could WORK at it, but there's no.... "damon/klaus wouldn't let her do this" and then you don't put in the work to examine how, exactly, that would irk the girl in question and how she would react to it.

if people can understand that kol working on the golden dagger is a culmination of how many times klaus has daggered him, and that elijah turning his back on him at literally any point he did was because of how much shit klaus has done (that elijah enabled, but i digress) and that stefan's actions against klaus were a build up of all he did to him..... why is it so insane for people to recognize that rebekah calling mikael is a buildup of all the things klaus has done to her over NINE centuries, and instead, just wave it off as 'her being dramatic about marcel'?

(this is rhetorical! I know why. it's in the same line of reasoning of why marcel AND tyler's anger for klaus is seen as less than valid in a Big part of this fandom, which is to say, neither of them are white men).

no matter how strange marcel and rebekah is they could have easily fixed it with having rebekah be daggered while marcel was being raised sure it'd still be weird but it wouldn't be As weird.

my thing about marbekah is that it's objectively weird even by vampire standards, specifically because rebekah was around when he was being raised -- and had been dating his half brother and it was his half brother's funeral when klaus even met him.

if rebekah had been daggered while marcel was a child, it would still be weird as fuck for her to wake up and want her brother's son but it would be considerably Less Weird Than That. especially since we have to assume rebekah was the only female influence in his life so if ANYTHING because of her close relationship with klaus she'd be even closer than an aunt and more like a motherly figure to marcel, considering the way elijah originally took to marcel like he was a son to him too (and elijah's idea later on that the three of them would be raising hope together). his crush on her was understandable because he's a kid her finding it cute was WEIRD and her eventually falling for him was weird as fuck.

like i can't explain to you how much less weird it would be if she were not around when he was an actual child. even by vampire standards. that's weird as fuck.

if marcel was a girl and it had been elijah or kol who developed that relationship with her... well actually y'all are weird as fuck i can't live under the assumption we would recognize how weird it is. but it would be like if klaus had adopted hope and she grew up to date elijah. like that's literally it.

the only difference is the tvdu has mixed ass ideas about adoption (elena was officially adopted by the gilberts which makes her and jeremy siblings -- they fully acknowledge that. davina was more or less adopted by marcel at sixteen and considers him a father or brother figure. marcel was taken in by klaus before he even became a teenager and raised until he was twenty five in mortal years but he is not his kid??? odd! very odd!)

and the thing is that klaus is kinda seen as the bad guy for not liking it because he doesn't like it for insane reasons (because he doesn't want them to love each other more than him) and no one else objects because by now marcel and rebekah are both adults. like yes sure by now it would be okay for them to be together because they're both adults and they've been apart for a couple hundred years except they also go back and forth on whether or not marcel is klaus' son depending on the damn episode and how obedient marcel is willing to be to the mikaelsons which is its own problem but his relationship with rebekah for damn certain did not help with their understanding of his place in the family. except rebekah literally had a hand in raising him from childhood. so it's odd no matter what.

like they specifically have her yell at klaus about this all but she never says "the boy you loved as your son". it's "the man you loved as a friend" because they cannot blatantly just admit the weird shit they did.

i've seen it a lot so this is just my two cents but i don't think that?? new orleans witches are powerless outside of new orleans that's always been an odd thing people claimed to me

they can do magic outside of new orleans they just practice ancestral magic in the city because that's where their ancestors were consecrated and it makes them stronger??? they don't just. lose the ability to practice magic (obviously, considering the ancestral well was destroyed in season three and vincent was still able to do magic in season four. followed up by them restoring it in season 4 but making davina the keeper of it all and, in season 5, releasing all the ancestors from the ancestral well while still being able to practice magic afterwards). not to mention papa tunde said he practices ancestral magic but wasn't from new orleans so obviously there are other ancestor aligned covens in the world but he, in new orleans, could use their magic anyway?? keep in mind that the ancestors that we've seen are specifically on a plane separate from the other side & the plane everyone's living in and the harvest is the thing that restores power to them for witches to use

sooo. YEAH. to me it would seem like they're still fully capable of doing magic, it just wouldn't be drawn from the ancestors (which only boosts their strength to begin with). it'd be their own power. which, for witches who leave their covens anyway (such as davina, who was not only able to do magic after leaving the coven BUT ALSO after being shunned by new orleans ancestors & witches alike), are already doing that??

The age-gap argument always confuses me (when it comes to tvd). Especially hearing this from se fans who ship kc (Caroline is a teenage girl, Klaus is over 1000 years old). Like idc that much when it comes to supernatural shows but the hypocrisy is astounding.

Ultimately it’s funny too because Julie named Stel3na specifically as an example of a “problematic” age-gap relationship when she was going on and on about how she wasn’t going to do those anymore for Legacies (which she lied about, but point still stands, lmfao.) I don’t care much in a supernatural context either, but there's no point trying to single out some for that aspect and not others. Any reference to Stefan being a teenager is obviously about his appearance, because there’s plenty of mentions of him being Older/his true age/etc.

And it's pretty much just Stefan/DE who gets this conversation. Nobody considers Kat a literal teenager, everybody talks about how Caroline matured and someone mentally a teen would not be running that school, etc. Nobody acts like Rebekah is a 16 year old girl married to a 25 year old man. It's so stupid, lmfao.
