one last note on genderbends --
My rule on them is LITERALLY this:
When it comes to following genderbends I will do so on an extremely SELECTIVE basis. I don’t hate people who make genderbends and I know that not everyone who has a genderbent muse is transphobic but because of personal experiences I’ve had plus the fact I personally agree with the points made in this post I will rarely follow genderbends back. I am more inclined to follow genderbends back if I know them through a friend of a friend, they are someone I have been RPing with for a while, the mun is an ally or the mun is nonbinary or trans.
A few & important related notes:
I’m currently following two genderbend blogs right now. For me that’s a comfortable number and I’m not really looking to expand that number anytime soon. I think for now I’m going to pass on following more genderbends for the time being. There a lot of talented RPers in this fandom so I’m sure you can find another Batman RPer to interact with. You can find more Batman rpers by checking out https://dcmlist.tumblr.com/.
I’m currently living in quarantine with someone with memory issues. Even if I was comfortable coming out to her as being nonbinary/demiboy/trans (which I’m not because I have reason to believe she is transphobic), I’d have to come out to her EVERY SINGLE DAY because she has short term memory issues.
I have (1) family member who supports and actually refers to me correctly. And I don’t get to talk to her much because she’s doing quarantine with her girlfriend.
Most of the jobs I’ve worked at I have had to stay closeted out of safety. I’ve literally had coworkers and supervisors make transphobic jokes around me before.
A professor I currently have is like pretend accepting of trans people and misgenders me CONSTANTLY.
And as survivor of emotional abuse I’ve spent my ENTIRE LIFE letting people make me uncomfortable or treat me like shit just so THEY could do what they want and do what makes THEM happy. I let them do what they want at the cost of my own comfort.
Tumblr is one of the few places I have control over who I come into contact with and what content I’m exposed to. I have every right to have the rule I have about genderbends. If you disagree, you can agree to disagree or you can unfollow me. Your choice.
Honestly I think one of the reasons I don’t normally interact with genderbends is people always blow arguments about them out of proportion. Read my rules. Respect them. Respect trans people and move on jesus christ.
