I can't remember whether it was you or someone else I follow, but I remember someone hc'ing that AZ keeps a weapon under/nearby his bed for emergencies because he's a traumatized old man, and I was curious if you had any ideas of what type of weapon he'd prefer/be best with?

Both me and @stellarblitz have agreed he’d have a weapon, so it might’ve been me or them, but yeah.

What weapon type is AZ most likely to use?

It’s kind of a toss up, but it mainly depends on the surrounding laws in modern day Lumiose. He prefers to fight at a distance, fortification rather than close combat. He also is trained in many eras of weaponry, a precaution he undertook should he ever have the need to defend himself or Floette. So he has two kinds of weaponry he prefers to use in tandem to defend himself.

One is a gun, and the other is a dagger.

He keeps both nearby, but the gun is stored away safely and locked up. This is a family friendly establishment, after all. Never can be too careful. The other is an old dagger with enough care put into its maintenance that you’d think it was pristinely new.

Yes I do believe that he’s trained with an older style of gun, but I believe it’s a smaller caliber handgun that he has. Something like a Pistolet (Model 17 Unique) or a well cared for PA50 (MAS-MLE 1950), both of which are decent for concealed carry and home defense.

The dagger is something that technically should be more ornamental, but AZ fashioned it like a real dagger for defense, and dolled it up enough when he used to display the dagger like something used in ceremony. After someone attempted to break in and steal the dagger, he retired it from viewing and now stores it at the bedside in case of emergencies.

Otherwise of these, AZ has his pokemon to defend himself. It’s the reason he rarely has need for his weapons, but if all else fails he refuses to leave himself and his family (found family) defenseless.

(As for what he’d be best with..well, give him a fencing lance and watch him work. He was a very good swordsman when he was young :D)
