Man. I'm so tired of people normalising or taking joy in hurting bugs. The mother bought a bug zapper thing that looks like a paddle or something but you're meant to hit bugs with it. And I'd be able to ignore it to some degree (though still be uncomfortable with seeing it) if it wasn't constantly shoved in my face. "Look it's smoking!!!" "Go hit that moth!!" "Cook that bitch!!!" bro do you think this is normal to think about any living thing? I don't want to be involved. I just want to do whatever I was doing, I don't want to see this shit. It's sick. Do you think it's normal to take joy in electrocuting every tiny little animal you see? Do you think it's okay to try and rope others into your sick fucking antics?
It'd disgust me even if I wasn't alterhuman but I'm arthropodhearted and a centipede therian. I love bugs. I am bugs. I fucking hate seeing people take so much sick joy in hurting things that are just a different kind of animal. Something I largely relate to and also... literally am. It feels so personal even if it's not meant in that way. I tell the dumbass family to stop and that they're being cruel and violent but no, they're "just bugs". I'm "overreacting". They're not the only ones. Some people really piss me off.
And hell, I know it's easy to fall into misanthropy from seeing all this shit be so normalised and get told "it's not that deep" but... There are people who care.
I'm so glad there's orthohumans out there who love bugs. I'm so glad there's alterhumans out there who love bugs. I'm so glad there's people who will give a little drink of water or a flower or some fruit to a sickly looking bug. People who will scoop bees and flies and moths and wasps out of pools of water they're stuck in. People who will gently tiptoe around snails and ants so they don't step on them. People who catch spiders and move them to a safe spot outside instead of killing them on sight. People who plant native flora in their yards specifically to help bug populations. People who will tell others it's not cool to injure every bug you see. People, orthohuman and alterhuman alike can be so cruel to bugs. It can suck. But there really is still beauty and kindness in the world. It's hard to remember sometimes but there are people who care. It's so important to remember. Please be kind to bugs. They're animals just like you.
