HESTIA

HESTIA was the virgin goddess of the hearth (both private and municipal) and the home. 

Hestia was depicted in Athenian vase painting as a modestly veiled woman sometimes holding a flowered branch (perhaps a chaste-tree). In classical sculpture she was also veiled, with a kettle as her attribute.

She is represented most often alongside the following four symbols.

Hearth: Hestia is associated with the hearth as a physical object and a symbol of domesticity and community. 

Chaste branch: Hestia's power is symbolized by the chaste branch or chaste tree. 

Kettle or vase: Hestia's power is symbolized by a kettle or vase. 

Veil: Hestia is often depicted wearing a veil.

ATHENE

ATHENE (Athena) was the Olympian goddess of wisdom and good counsel, war, the defence of towns, heroic endeavour, weaving, pottery and various other crafts.

She was depicted as a stately woman armed with a shield and spear, and wearing a long robe, crested helm, and the famed aigis--a snake-trimmed cape adorned with the monstrous visage of the Gorgon Medousa (Medusa).

She is represented most often alongside the following four symbols.

The Owl: Perhaps the most iconic symbol associated with Athena, the owl represents wisdom, insight, and foresight. Athena's association with the owl underscores her role as a goddess of knowledge and enlightenment.

The Olive Tree: As the patroness of the city of Athens, Athena is often depicted with an olive branch or olive tree. The olive tree symbolizes peace, prosperity, and the cultivation of civilization, reflecting Athena's role in fostering culture and governance.

The Aegis: Athena's protective shield, known as the aegis, is adorned with the fearsome head of the Gorgon Medusa. The aegis symbolizes divine authority, protection, and the power to inspire awe and fear in adversaries.

The Spear and Helmet: Athena is also depicted wielding a spear and wearing a helmet, emphasizing her martial prowess and role as a goddess of warfare and strategic conflict.
