this time lightning's chrome detailing

hood latches and theres a very fine wire of chrome around his headlights

the rivets on his roof rails

lugs + centercap (centercap is mostly candy red)

and from COTR:

chrome rivets to hold the plexiglass of his naca duct + exhaust

and cars 3:

even his fuelneck vent and spoiler support rods are chromed out and shiny as fuck. (and the trim on the taillights to match the headlights)

not sure if the screws on the actual spoiler are chrome tho, but the character texture they used for the RRC wrap had inconsistencies (such as an all-black exhaust for some reason??

the 1:18 scale Bandai replica has more accurate coloring IMO

usually in critique vids/essays of cars 3 the crazy 8 race is cited as a weak scene narratively which is true its just mostly an action sequence. but it also puts the Characters into a terrarium and lets them Do Things that does massively help characterize them. at least i like how goofy cruz and lightning are in this scene

started wondering about soft magic systems in cars and it got me thinking about their eyeballs

in the past ive argued that the cars have "iris tissue" (due to the muscle fibers being visible).... but Do they?

could be just a screen, or a projection.

or more likely something in between, some sort of optical sensor setup. the main glass of the windshield acts as the cornea:

and there could be a back-half panel to act as a retina, maybe attached to an optical cable or it could loop back around into the initial optical projector. and then the information is sent to a processing unit.

or they have big meaty pancake eyeorgans like a singular boba floating in a rectangular container of tea.

or! its magic.

choosing to interpret cruz's tales of her offseason in COTR as her just signing up for every possible random online certificate by day and then listening to subliminal french language videos to turn you french at night because thats way funnier than her magically knowing everything because now that she's overcome her one flaw (anxiety/self doubt, which classically goes away after being overcome just once and can never be a lifelong battle and has no relation to serious things like depression) she is a Perfect Woman Character with No Problems and then i hit every pixar writer's laptop with a tungsten baseball bat

and then ill turn around and hit lightning mcqueen with the tungsten baseball bat. just to see what sort of noise he makes
