Summary
Nozel and Vanessa are not only in a happy relationship, but they also are getting a baby. Wonderful, right? Except that this pregnancy wasn't planned, but that's not the problem. The problem is that they haven't told their respective families about their relationship yet...

This fic idea was in my mind for a while and it took form more and more over time. But the plot only started to REALLY took place when I thought "Oh, what if Nozel and Vanessa are having a baby, but their respective families still don't know that they're dating" and I opened Pandoras box...
Of course, this story talks about pregnancies, with its ups and downs, but it is still mostly a fluffy and funny fic, although there are of course serious notes as well
And again, big thanks for @chaptersonetoinfinity for giving me this great title idea 💜

They didn’t know. They didn’t realized.
Minds clouded by lust, by the joy they day gave them, even by just the feelings they had for each other, they forgot one important thing when the night was again theirs alone.
That night, the bottle with the protection potion went untouched…
💜💜
Just a few weeks later…
The sun tickled Vanessas nose as she slowly woke up. Gosh, summer mornings were not made for people who loved to sleep in, the sun rose too early. Vanessa usually loved the summer, but for the mornings, she had to give to winter. Longer nights meant less risks to wake up early.
She would have loved to put a pillow over her face like always, but a strong arm made it difficult to move her owns.
“Honey…” Vanessa whined with a sleepy voice, but it was just regular breathing that answered her.
Now, this was strange. Nozel was a morning person, usually he would wake up before her or at least already respond to her sleepy morning whining.
Well, it had been a long day yesterday. The first royal wedding since… well, all Vanessa got is that the last royal wedding was very, very long ago. So, it was special. As a royal Head of House, even though it wasn’t a wedding in his house, he had to be present and prepared weeks in advance. Vanessa didn’t got it why and it didn’t seem that Nozel knew either, but he still did it. Given that the other two Heads usually liked to nitpick on him and never missed an opportunity to mock him or put disagreeable duties on him, no wonder he still got prepared in advance.
At this point, Vanessa was almost certain that Nozel was only so big on discipline just that the other two royal Heads (and some royals and nobles apparently) won’t try to put him down too often.
Add to his Head duties that he also had a lot to do as captain of the Silver Eagles, especially after Spade. And he spent most of his rare free time with her. Vanessa was happy for the rare times Nozel could just relax and having a proper night of sleep. It was going better since they were dating but progress was still needed.
It was good to know him sleeping soundly. Vanessa smiled as she slowly opened her eyes. Sleeping Nozel was such a sweet sight. He lied on his stomach, one arm firmly around her. His head was turned towards her, eyes closed, his long silver her covering most his face and spread out on his shoulder, as well as a bit on the pillow. His other arm was framing the pillow and the blanket only covered the under half of his perfect body.
Nozel was another level of handsome when he was soundly sleeping.
Vanessa hesitated to waking him up – as she actually needed to go to the toilet – or admiring him for a few more minutes and letting him sleep.
In the end, Nozel started to move before she could actually decide. He barely opened his eyes before closing it again, smiling at her and now putting his other arm around her. A habit he had since their first time.
“Morning, honey.”
“Morning…”
“Let me go?”
“No.”
“But I really need to pee.”
“Oh, sorry.”
He let her go rather reluctantly and he even pouted a bit as she sat up, which was utterly adorable. Vanessa giggled as she gave a peck on the lips and caressed his abs before she left the bed.
While in the bathroom, as she washed her hands and looked in the mirror, Vanessa realized that she still had the flower of her wedding hairstyle in her hair. But of course, her hair was now falling free on her shoulders and the poor daisy was hanging sadly from her locks. Vanessa took it off and put it on the porcelain sink. Daisies weren’t usually her type of flowers, but those were Finesses favorites flowers and since Finesse married Finral yesterday, Vanessa had wanted to honor the happy newlyweds.
Yes, Finral did it yesterday. Her best friend married the love of his life.
Vanessa hoped those two had fun on their honeymoon in Heart, they really deserved it. Captain Yami complained about not having his wheels for a while, but Vanessa knew that deep down, he was very happy for Finral, like everyone else. In fact, this wedding felt a bit like a personal victory for every Black Bull. Mostly due to the fact that a dream of one of them came true. Not to mention that Finesse was utterly lovely and kind, practically becoming an honorary Black Bull at this point.
And Vanessa had so much fun at the wedding (even though she couldn’t stand the wine for some reason). She danced with Nozel a lot, no one took notice of it, she managed to push Gauche to dance with Grey (if only she could have done the same with the rookies, but Noelle was so weird with Asta since Spade and Asta… still an oblivious sweetheart), she even got a nice chat with Langris of all people. Langris had been Finrals best man at the wedding, making many Bulls upset, since most of them still didn’t really like him. But Vanessa had to admit that he was a better person now, actually caring for both Finral and Finesse. And to be fair, him being snarky wasn’t really a bad trait, some of the Black Bulls were snarky as well.
All in all, it had been a perfect wedding in Vanessas books. Not that she knew a lot about weddings as this was her first one. A good wedding to attend for the first time.
When Vanessa came back, Nozel was already putting some of his clothes on. A pity, she loved his naked body.
“Already ready to go to work, honey? Didn’t you took the day off?”
“Only the morning.”
“Still a lot coming from you. But why not the whole day? It’s not like I’m going anywhere on a mission after yesterday. Wouldn’t that be a great idea, honey?” She smirked as she hugged him from behind, slowly caressing his abs and torso with her fingers. “Just you and me, alone together for a whole day, never leaving this room nor the bed… we won’t need to get dressed at all…”
Given the sigh that escaped Nozels lips, he wasn’t against it and seemed very tempted to let go of his plans and duties for today and just spend the rest of the day with her in his arms until tomorrow. Who would have thought of Nozel Silva, stern captain of the Silver Eagles and proud royal of house Silva, being ready to just forget his duty to relax and spend a lazy day with his girlfriend?
More than one year ago, especially before Spade, Nozel wouldn’t have allowed himself even one minute of rest. Now, he was a bit more flexible about it.
But Nozel wouldn’t be Nozel without still some discipline and sense of duty.
“It sounds tempting and I’m open to allow ourselves a day like that. But I fear I can’t today. I want to finish this despicable affair about Klamotte Mozart. And I have to supervise the training of my juniors too.”
“You seem pretty much involved directly with the training of rookies since Spade. I’m proud of you, honey.”
“We got five recruits at the last selection.”
“Yeah, right. Not with me, Nozel. I know you opened up since Spade, as subtle as it is. You becoming like a true mentor to your rookies shows it very much and I love this side of you. I know you can be a good teacher to your newbies.”
Nozel blushed, but didn’t deny it. So typical, yet so adorable. Vanessa turned around with a knowing smile, collecting the outfit she had for the wedding and getting some change of clothes out of Nozels closet. It was telling how much his bedroom was becoming like a second home to her, she even left small things at his place since months.
“Are your rookies promising so far?”
“As far as it is expected of new recruits, I’d say yes, but all of them still have to learn a lot. Aurelius Or can do a lot, but he needs to work on his shyness. Elyan Salisbury has his heart at the right place, works wonderfully with his magic and shows a pure knightly honor not everybody has these days, but it also makes him very naïve on many topics. Inverno Vivaldi is talented and enthusiastic, but his craziness can be concerning. Well, no wonder, he is a Vivaldi after all. Perla Seashell has highly promising magic, but she needs training the most, as we still need to determine which between fighting or support is more her thing. As for Grenadine Évantail… I think she is the most promising so far. Given her origins, she might have the feeling that she has much more to prove than anyone.”
“Aw, sounds to me like you’re fond of them, honey. Also, Grenadine… isn’t that the noble bastard daughter that impress you all so much during the last selection exam? I remember how captain Yami was so upset that you of all people chose the bastard, he was actually pretty much determined to get her.”
“Six captains raised their hands for her, so it was her choice.”
“I know, but captain Yami forgets that when he complains. Well, a bastard daughter would have been fitting in our family of misfit. I would have welcomed her. Ah, I just wish us Bulls would have at least one new face, it’s been ages since Asta and Noelle join us, we need new rookies.”
“There is still this year’s exam.”
“True, make sure to leave the coolest one for us, okay?”
Nozel had a soft chuckle and Vanessa could have melted at the sound. It became her most favorite sound in the world.
If anyone would have told her more than a year ago that she would fall deeply in love with a man she first resented, given his part in the pain of one of her beloved squadmates, she would have laughed in disbelief and drink at least three wine bottles to forget it. And yet… There she was, having Nozel Silva as boyfriend, saw the majority of his redemption and loving him truly and unconditionally.
Somehow, the thought of it that she felt tears in her eyes and the urge to hug him behind, which she did.
“You’re quite more emotional than usual, lately. But I don’t mean that in a negative way!”
“I know, stop your anxiety. Hm, I think you’re right. But it’s probably normal. After all, my best friend married the love of his life, isn’t that great?”
“You’re happy for him. This is so you.”
“Of course, I am. Finral deserved this more than anyone and Finesse is one of the sweetest girls I ever met. But I have to tell you, I almost thought that it wouldn’t go through, which I didn’t get why.”
“There were a few factors. For starters, it was never really clear which Vaude son Finesse would marry in the end, even though lord Langris was the favorite. And you know our current king, he must always fuss over something.”
“Duh.”
“Add to this the fact that your friend technically gave up on the Vaude name and thus, lord and lady Vaude refused to let him back in.”
“Bunch of assholes.”
“Crude, but true. Also, don’t forget that during the elf invasion, lord Langris attacked the king, which also made the arrangement rather frail.”
“Oh, there was that. Kinda forgot it. And yet, the wedding still went through.”
“A few factors played, I guess. Nebra told me that, while still having some innocent affection Finesse, lord Langris wasn’t inclined to marry her. And haven’t you told me that Finesse always liked Finral romantically? I don’t know all the detail, but lord Langris seemed to have pulled some strings himself so that his brother can marry Finesse while keeping the Roulacase name.”
“Yeah, that was surprisingly nice of him. I thought for long that he hated Finral, but guess I was wrong. Maybe I should try to befriend him.”
“With him? Good luck.”
“Come on, honey, you know that I can-“
Sadly, Vanessa couldn’t continue, as some nauseous feeling started to fill her mouth. And it increased quickly.
Vanessa let go of Nozel, ignoring his concerned call and went right back into the bathroom, reaching the toilet seat right before she had to puke.
Dang it, what a shame, the buffet yesterday had been amazing and Charmy would never mess up the food, especially when a squadmate was getting married.
There was some relief when Nozel joined her, caressing her back and putting her hair out of the way.
“Did you drank some bad wine at the wedding? Fuegoleon always complains, rightfully so though, that king Augustus has terrible wine taste.”
“Nope, gloops. I haven’t drank any wine at the wedding.”
“You haven’t?” Nozel asked, frowning, as helped her up and gave her a glass of water.
“Come on, aren’t you always telling me that I should drink less?”
“And I still stand by that point. But it is still surprising.”
Vanessa drank her water, feeling better that her mouth was free from puke taste, before answering, “Fair enough, I admit. For some reason, I couldn’t stand the scent of that wine. But it must be that the king has a terrible taste, like you tell me.”
“This explains why you didn’t drank wine, but not your sudden nausea. Actually, you had nausea a few times those last few days. It is really strange, maybe you got some food poisoning?”
“Gosh, I hope not, it would break Charmys heart. Although, if Noelle cooked lately… But well, it’s probably not that bad.”
“Still, would you see Owen soon, just in case? Just to be sure it’s nothing serious.”
“Aww, you’re so cute when you’re worried about me.”
“Vanessa…”
“Alright, I will see Owen right this afternoon, so you can stop worrying too much. But promise me that we’ll see each other this evening, please?”
“You want a proper date or a simple cozy evening in my room?”
“Cozy evening sounds perfect, honey. We can have a proper date again on a later day.”
Vanessa put her lips on his, enjoying their softness and the subtle lavender scent that caressed her nose.
She felt Nozel putting his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to him and deepening their kiss. Be it soft or passionate, his kisses always seemed like there was no tomorrow and it made Vanessa always feel so special. That Nozel would consider her with so much esteem and worth…
“It makes it hard to me to leave when you kiss me like that, handsome,” she whispered as they broke the kiss, slower than necessary.
“I wouldn’t mind at all if you’ll stay…”
Vanessa blushed. Nozel rarely flirted back and it always left her speechless and happily flustered when he did. Not many people ever managed to make her blush and out of all people, Nozel Silva was one of the few who could.
“Honestly, it is tempting to move in. But we might need to do a few other steps before we talk about it, honey.”
“I know. Like… announce our relationship to our respective families…”
Which was certainly the biggest step they have to take one day or another. And one of the hardest.
Which was probably one of the reasons they always postponed to tell the Silvas and the Black Bulls their serious relationship.
There was certainly not much affection between Black Bulls and Silvas, obviously with what happened to Noelle. Even though Noelle was on better terms with Nozel, was getting along better with Nebra (strangely enough thanks to spooky novels) and was on respectful terms with Solid, even though the Black Bulls respected (more or less for some) respected her wish to be on better terms with her siblings, Silvas and Bulls were stubborn. Silvas were awkward and Bulls rarely forgot when one of them was hurt by someone.
Yet, Vanessa was so happy with Nozel, he was happy with her… They haven’t really talked about it yet, but Vanessa was considering seriously to spend the rest of her life with him. With the ups and downs, even with the difficulties royalties would bring. It was a wish she had for some time now and she hoped that the Bulls and the Silvas would accept their relationship, maybe even supportive after the initial shock. Black Bulls loved each other and it was clear that despite their awkwardness, all Silva siblings cared a lot for Nozel, especially Noelle. Still, it was a difficult step.
Especially because of Noelle. That poor girl would have a huge shock and freak out. Nozel feared that telling her without proper preparation would destroy every progress they made with their bond and while Vanessa didn’t believe it would happen, she totally get why he felt that way.
“After Finrals wedding, it certainly would be time to tell them at some point, honey.”
“I know. We can’t postpone it forever.”
“It will be fine. We will certainly find a good moment.”
“Didn’t you told me once that waiting for a good moment will make me wait forever?”
“Come on, don’t use my words against me. But well, I’m a bit anxious as well. I will have a lot to do to hold them back to fight you.”
“Fight me?”
“So that they can determine if you’re good enough for me. I personally find it stupid, especially since it’s not something they would do for everyone. Like, Finesse didn’t went through it.”
“I’m not Finesse.”
“And you’re not Dante Zogratis, so they shouldn’t complain. Well, maybe we should wait a bit still. After all, Finral just got married, is now on his honeymoon for two weeks and we have to get our daily life without his portals for a while, that’s a lot for us Black Bulls. You think we can wait until there’s a true calm period before we tell them and your siblings?”
“There are calm periods with you Black Bulls?”
“Let’s say, periods without big events taking place and yes, a wedding of one of us counts as big event. Bet it counts for you Silvas too.”
“Agree. I hope I will still be able to face Noelle afterwards.”
“Aww, your doting big brother side is so cute, honey.”
“Vanessa…”
Yet, a soft smile was on his lips as he scolded her. Vanessa pecked his lips before dragging him out of the bathroom. They both still needed to get dressed, after all.
“So, I’ll better get going, some Bulls might have a hangover from yesterday or ate too much, so I’ll have potion to make.”
“They don’t realize how blessed they are to have you.”
“Oh, I’m sure they know, but it’s no big deal.”
Nozel was about to protest, but Vanessa shut him up by making his braid. This always made him soft and Vanessa honestly not only came to be fond of the braid, but also enjoyed making it herself.
“So, we’ll see each other this evening?”
“I’ll land on your balcony like always, honey. And I’ll bring a cake made by Charmy. Any special cake wishes?”
“Anything you would love.”
“Careful, little eagle, you might regret letting me choose. But okay, I’ll do that.”
“And don’t forget to go see Owen this afternoon.”
“I won’t. Gosh, I hope Charmy has made some éclairs for breakfast.”
Nozel raised an eyebrow. “Éclairs, for breakfast?”
“Don’t ask me, I often so hungry for breakfast lately. But you’re right, éclairs don’t really fit with breakfast. Maybe she’ll make bacon and scrambled eggs on toast, that would be fitting and just as delicious. Alright, honey, I’m going now. And you, don’t forget to get a proper breakfast before you’re of to work.”
They kissed each other goodbye and Vanessa flew away. It was really a beautiful morning. The nausea was certainly not a bad thing, Owen will agree with her. Nozel would understand once they meet again this evening. And gosh, she still hoped Charmy made some éclairs. She was craving éclairs and why wouldn’t she? Éclairs were some of the most delicious pastries in the world.
Vanessa smiled as she flew in the sunlight. It was actually nice that every big event, good and bad, was behind them now. She would for once welcome some peace and calm in her daily life.
For some reason, her stomach began to growl softly. She really must be craving éclairs.
I know it’s been awhile since I posted something like this. So I hope that you’re excited about this part! I hope it’s not trash @creamystreamy! Just in case I’m gonna always link some shit PART 4----PART 3----PART 2----PART 1
Taya and Bethany sat down with Hoshi, Travis, Malcolm and Trip for breakfast. Trip left a seat open next to him for Bethany. Everyone else at the table seemed to give each other knowing looks as Bethany sat down. None of them had really had the chance to talk to Bethany or Taya. They all had so many questions.
“Bethany you have to tell us, what’s it like being around Vulcans twenty-four seven,” Malcolm asked, glancing up from his breakfast.
“They usually ignored me unless they had to talk to me,” Bethany shrugged. “They’re not as bad as everyone thinks. They don’t communicate that much.”
“Only if it’s logical,” Taya mused as she took a bite out of her bagel. “Otherwise, communication wasn’t initiated.”
“Is it true that you two are apart of Starfleet,” Hoshi questioned with a friendly smile.
“Yup.” Taya nodded, mimicking Hoshi’s smile. “I’m a lieutenant commander and Bethany is a lieutenant.”
“I hope you’re not looking to replace me Bethany,” Malcolm joked.
“Of course not,” Bethany reassured Malcolm. “I’m just here to help out and brush up on my Vulcan; it’s a little rusty.”
“So what are you going to do around here Taya,” Travis asked. “Are you going to be on the bridge?”
“I might,” Taya answered. “As the captain’s yeoman, I’ll need to be there if and when he needs me.” Taya finished her bagel, grabbing Bethany’s orange from her hand. It was normal for Bethany to offer Taya her orange every morning at breakfast.
“What ‘bout you Bethany?” Trip’s eyes fell on Bethany. He couldn’t help the smile that found its way onto his lips. “You’re a science officer aren’t’cha?”
“I was on the Vulcan ship,” Bethany corrected politely. “If there’s a plant that needs to be identified, I’m your girl. I can also identify alien species.”
“Won’t your duties interfere with T’Pol’s,” Hoshi asked.
“I’m hoping it won’t,” Bethany stated nervously. “I’ve had a small amount of herbal medicine training. I could probably help Phlox at some point. I don’t really know where I belong just yet.”
“I’m sure you’ll figure it out Bethany,” Hoshi assured Bethany.
“It’s about time for your training ladies,” Malcolm pointed out as he stood up and grabbed his tray.
“You can come see me on the bridge afterwards Bethany,” Hoshi noted.
Bethany nodded as she watched Travis, Hoshi, and Malcolm step away from the table. Bethany let out a sigh as she glanced over at Taya. “Today is going to be a nightmare,” Bethany mumbled.
“Always one for dramatics Bethany,” Taya teased as she finished her orange. “I’ll meet you in the armory.” Taya patted her friend’s shoulder.
“I’m sure you’ll do fine Bethany,” Trip spoke up. He should have left to go to engineering, but he wanted a few extra minutes with you. “You’re still goin’ to movie night right?”
Bethany lifted her gaze to look at the commander. He had the most amazing blue eyes. They reminded her of her own blue eyes. Even his blonde hair reminded her of her own hair. There was no denying how handsome he was.
“I was thinking about it,” Bethany admitted. “I think Taya is going to sit with the captain though. Something about how they should get to know each other better if she is his yeoman.”
“Well you should come and see the movie,” Trip suggested. “One of my favorites. It’s hard to beat Frankenstein.” Trip’s hand rested gently on your arm. “Ya can sit next to me. I promise I won’t spoil the movie.”
“That does sound like a tempting offer,” Bethany joked. How could she pass up such a great opportunity? “Count me in Trip.” You pushed away from the table, taking your tray with you.
Trip wore a wide grin on his face as he left the table. Nothing could wipe this grin off of the engineer’s face.
Bethany wasn’t as good at hitting targets as Taya was. Taya had gone to a school with an ROTC program. She knew how to handle weapons far better than Bethany did. Taya had more of a naval experience than Bethany did as well.
“Bethany try to aim at the targets and focus on them; pretend like we aren’t even here,” Malcolm instructed. He watched Bethany carefully as she only hit a few of the targets. The lieutenant leaned towards Taya. “Has she always been this awful?”
“Ever since I can remember,” Taya chuckled, crossing her arms. “Her dad tried to teach her, but she never liked guns that much.”
Bethany let out a huff of frustration as the targets disappeared. A score of 3 targets per minute was pathetic for a lieutenant. Then again, she had never needed a phase pistol. “I give up for today,” Bethany mumbled. She handed Malcolm the phase pistol in defeat.
Malcolm handed the phase pistol to Taya. “Show me what you’ve got lieutenant commander.” Malcolm folded his arms across his chest as he stepped back to start the program.
Taya smirked as she straightened her stance, holding the pistol as if she was back in training. “Watch and learn Beth,” Taya mused. As the targets appeared, Taya hit most of them with ease. Of course Taya wasn’t perfect; she did miss a few targets.
Malcolm ended the program. “That was impressive Taya,” Malcolm praised. “I’ll let the captain know about your progress. I think it’s safe to say you don’t need any training with the phase pistol.” Malcolm glanced at Bethany, giving her a sympathetic look. “You’ll have to come back tomorrow.”
“I understand. I’ll be back tomorr-.”
“Taya and Bethany to the bridge,” the captain spoke through the comm link.
“That must be our cue to leave,” Taya stated with a smile. “Thanks Malcolm.” Taya tapped Bethany’s arm. “Let’s get going.”
After a busy day, Taya and Bethany were ready for movie night. Taya took the seat next to Archer and Bethany took the seat next to Trip. Archer smiled at Taya and Trip smiled at Bethany. Almost the whole crew was there for movie night.
“I hope you’re ready for an old movie,” Archer whispered to Taya. “Trip’s a fan of the classics. The kind that should have stayed in some kind of movie archive where no one would find it.”
“Terrible effects huh,” Taya guessed, getting a small chuckle from the captain.
“You have no idea.” Archer straightened his back as the lights dimmed.
Trip grabbed a small bowl from under his chair. It was filled with cheese popcorn. The engineer caught the surprised look on your face. “I might’ve asked Taya what your favorite movie snack was,” Trip confessed with a grin. “This is the only bowl of cheese popcorn in space.”
“That’s sweet Trip, thanks,” Bethany smiled. She plucked a piece of popcorn and tossed it into her mouth. “No one’s ever made special popcorn for me.”
Trip’s smile grew as the movie started. He was glad that he could do something for Bethany that no one else had before. He was even happier that she smiled. Trip was quickly growing fond of her smile.
After the movie, Taya and Archer walked in front of Trip and Bethany who were talking about the movie. Taya knew you would be talking about the movie for the rest of the night. How would she get any sleep with your chatter?
“Looks like Trip’s movie has captured Bethany’s interest,” Archer mused, his hands held behind his back as he walked.
“Bethany has a fascination with old movies, old music, vintage clothing,” Taya pointed out. “I’m not surprised that she found Frankenstein to be interesting.”
“Your quarters were right next to Bethany’s on the Vulcan ship,” Archer recalled from when he read your previous assignment details. “I’m sure you’re not used to sharing your quarters.”
“We’ve done it before. When we were still in Starfleet Academy,” Taya divulged. “Bethany was the first person I knew. She’s great at what she does.”
“I’m sure,” Archer nodded. “I hope I’m not overstepping boundaries, but if you don’t mind, I’d like you to stay with me tonight. We’ll be passing rather closely towards Klingon space and I might need you around.”
Taya’s cheeks flushed a dark pink. “It’s my duty as your yeoman to be at your side,” Taya affirmed nervously. “I don’t mind at all.” She knew Bethany would be okay. Bethany had Trip; maybe he could be of some help with her restlessness.
Bethany overheard the end of Taya’s and Archer’s conversation. She flashed Trip a smile as he talked about the movie. Bethany never liked to be alone at night. When she was on the Vulcan ship, Taya was always in the room next to her. Now she was going to be across the ship. She didn’t mind, but she did feel slightly anxious and Trip could tell. Before Bethany could smack her head into one of the metal bulkheads, Trip pulled her away from it.
“You should probably watch where you’re goin’ Bethany,” Trip smiled. “I would hate to have’ta take ya to sickbay this late at night.”
“Sorry I was distracted,” Bethany stammered, noticing that Taya and Archer had already departed.
Trip gingerly held on to Bethany’s arms as he stopped in his tracks. “Is everythin’ okay Bethany,” the commander asked. “I didn’t do anythin’ wrong did I?”
“No no,” Bethany replied, shaking her head. “Of course not. I just… You’re gonna think this is stupid.” She dipped her head briefly before meeting Trip’s gaze. “I just get a little anxious at night. I usually either talk myself to sleep or I just don’t sleep.”
“I know we don’t know each other well, but maybe ya wouldn’t mind stayin’ with me,” Trip offered kindly. “I’d feel better knowin’ ya won’t be up all night, anxious and what not.”
“Are you sure I won’t bother you with all my talking,” Bethany asked.
“Actually I wouldn’t mind gettin’ta know the real Bethany.” Trip led you towards his quarters. “The Bethany behind the science.”
“She’s not that exciting,” Bethany joked.
“Nonsense,” Trip protested with a warm smile. “Besides I wanna know what’cha think ‘bout other kinds of movies.”
That night the crew of the starship Enterprise safely passed by Klingon space. Taya and Archer slept comfortably side by side, while Trip and Bethany slept close and in each other’s arms. It was the first night that either of the two had spent the night in the quarters of the men they found attractive. They were sure it wouldn’t be the last.
I had it in me to write this tonight. So I wanted to post it tonight. This is also because I like to make @creamystreamy smile! I hope you like it. Also just because I link stuff... PART 3----PART 2------ PART 1
Taya and Bethany were walking to Archer's ready room. Taya could see that Bethany was distracted. She could read Bethany like a book sometimes. Either that or Bethany wasn't trying to hide the fact that she was smitten.
“So Trip,” Taya said with a shit-eating grin. “You two seem pretty friendly.” Taya looked over at Bethany, seeing the blush in her cheeks. “Oh come on, we've been through enough together, you can tell me if you like him.”
“Okay so I like Trip,” Bethany blurted out, looking to the side. “He probably doesn't even like me.”
“Are you kidding me? Of course he does,” Taya noted. “You should see the way he looks at you Bethany. Doe eyes to the extreme; both of you.”
Bethany rolled her eyes with a smile. “Yeah well, you've been so concerned with how Trip and I have been looking at each other, that you haven't seen the way Archer looks at you.”
Taya’s cheeks felt hot. “Don't turn this on me. You and commander Tucker are the love birds here.” Taya knew it was your job to be observant. She trusted your observations, but could Archer really be interested in her?
Before Taya could contemplate Bethany’s words any further, the door to Archer’s ready room opened. Archer flashed Taya a smile, causing her heart to clench. “Come on in Taya and Bethany,” Archer said politely.
Taya and Bethany walked into Archer's ready room. Admiral Forrest was already on the screen. Bethany felt her stomach churn. “Greetings Admiral Forrest,” Bethany stated nervously.
“Lieutenant,” the Admiral greeted. “I've been briefed on what happened. I'm trusting that it was, in fact an accident. I'll be speaking with Soval later about this. I'm sure nothing will come of this. Although you should be more careful in the future if you ever want to be a commander.”
“Yes sir,” Bethany nodded, swallowing the lump in her throat. “Give Soval my sincerest apologies, won't you?”
“Of course,” Forrest affirmed. “You are dismissed for now. I need to talk to Taya and Archer. Captain Archer tells me that he has a communications officer who is multilingual. I suggest you see her about learning some more languages.”
“I will, you have my word,” Bethany assured him. “Thank you Admiral Forrest.” Bethany gave a small nod and left Archer's ready room. As soon as she left, she let out a long breath. The same breath she had been holding in the whole time.
Archer and Taya approached the screen. They seemed to take the same stance. Their backs straight and their arms behind them. They waited for the Admiral to speak. Taya wasn't sure what the Admiral wanted to talk about. Did this have to do with something else?
“Lieutenant Commander Taya, it is my understanding that you’ve been looking to improve your rank recently,” the admiral spoke calmly.
“Indeed,” Taya confirmed. “I was in charge of two departments on the Vulcan ship. They decided to start me out on a small assignment.”
“Archer and I went over your Starfleet file,” Forrest voiced, holding a PADD in his hand. “Before your departure from the Vulcan ship, they said you did well with all of your duties. Archer and I agreed that it would be beneficial if you were his yeoman. You'll answer to him, but also help him. Don't let the power go to your head Taya.”
“I won't sir,” Taya stated confidently. “I'd also like to make it known that Bethany and I did not interfere with, nor aggravate, the culture on the planet we were on. Bethany was merely exploring the Vulcan ship and trying to familiarize herself with the ship.”
“Bethany is a great lieutenant. I just wish she wasn't so curious about everything around her. Then again, that's why she's so important to Starfleet.” Forrest paused, glancing over at Archer. “One more thing Jon.”
“Yes admiral,” Archer spoke.
“You won't be coming back to Earth, not just yet,” he informed the captain. “You're close enough to Jupiter station. If you need repairs or supplies, you're welcome to stop there, but I've got a more important assignment for you. I'll send you the details.”
“Of course. We'll stop at Jupiter Station for supplies and be on our way,” Archer voiced. “Thank you for taking the time to speak with us.”
“Take care of yourself out there Jonathan,” the admiral ordered with a smile. “I’m sure this will be a learning experience for the both of you. Keep in touch. Forrest out.”
Archer turned to face Taya, a wide grin on his lips. “I've never had a yeoman before,” Archer confessed, dipping his head. “I'm not sure what your duties will be, but perhaps you can give me some insight. T’Pol often uses logic, as most Vulcans do. Maybe your insight can help me with tough, moral focused, decisions.”
“Of course,” Taya acknowledged. “Just for knowledge sake, how would you like me to address you. Trip has already made it clear he doesn't like being called commander.”
“Call me Jon when we're not on duty,” Archer informed Taya. “When we're on duty or around the crew, you'll address me as captain.” Archer paused, meeting your gaze. “What about you? No one has asked you or Bethany.”
“I prefer Taya,” she answered. “Lieutenant commander is fine and all, but you can call me Taya. Besides, lieutenant commander is a mouthful.”
“Well Taya, I hope to get to know you better during our voyage through space,” Archer said politely. “I'll brief you on our mission from the admiral tomorrow. For now, I think it would be best for you and Bethany to get acquainted with the crew. Lieutenant Malcolm Reed is our armory officer. He'll be training you and Bethany as of tomorrow.”
“Good to know,” Taya nodded. “So briefing and training tomorrow?”
Archer pressed the keypad next to the door. “Tomorrow is also movie night,” Archer divulged. “Everyone will be attending, I hope to see you there.”
Tanya stood in the doorway. “Yeah sure. Sounds like a good time.” She smiled anxiously at Jonathan before leaving his ready room. She wanted to say something, but words never formed. Even if they did, they probably wouldn't have left her mouth.
Archer smiled to himself as he paced the floor of his ready room. Now that you were his yeoman, he had a reason to get to know you. A reason other than the fact that he liked your presence and wanted to get closer to you.
That night Taya and Bethany were laying in their bunks inside their quarters. Taya couldn't stop thinking about how Archer smiled at her when he talked to her. Maybe Bethany was right, maybe Jonathan did like her.
“Bethany are you awake,” Taya asked, turning onto her side.
“Yeah,” Bethany mumbled. “I'm guessing you can't sleep either. What's on your mind?”
“Jonathan,” Taya replied. She let out an exaggerated sigh, flopping onto her back.
“On a first name basis I see,” Bethany teased, followed by a small laugh. “Look, you are both relatively confident. Not only that, but you're both great at what you do. You do whatever it takes to get the job done. No wonder you two are drawn to each other.”
“True,” Taya spoke, raising her eyebrows. Taya rested her hands behind her head. “You know what? I'm glad that you accidentally launched that escape pod. I like it better here.”
“I'm going to remember that,” Bethany smirked. “Now you can't say that all my ideas are terrible.”
“Oh sweet lord what have I done,” Taya joked as she let out a yawn. “Get some sleep Bethany. We have training tomorrow.”
“Are you going to tell me what happened after I left?” Bethany had to admit that she was curious. Taya seemed just as distracted as she was. Perhaps it had something to do with what happened just after she had left.
“In the morning,” Taya promised.
Bethany and Taya were glad they ran into Archer and Trip. The crew aboard the ship were welcoming and overwhelmingly pleasant. Hopefully things wouldn't be so bad here.

Henry Gunderson first made waves in his hometown of San Francisco a couple years ago with eccentric, surreal paintings of humanoid animals that I recall often stumbling upon on various image-sharing websites. Now based in Brooklyn, he’s since moved far from those subjects, with recent works at San Francisco’s Ever Gold Gallery and Regina Rex revealing more abstract, often playful images that seduce with much slicker brushwork that merits getting up nice and close to the canvas. That same painterly skill wows in naturalistic acrylics in his solo show Two & Two, at 247365, that ruminates on the very act of painting.
