“Harvey!” you cried, darting into his room and sitting down beside him, taking his hand in yours.
“No, no, get her out of here!” Harvey began to yell, keeping his face turned away from you. “Nurse!”
“Harvey, what are you saying? What’s going on?” you pleaded, not understanding why he was acting like this.
“I don’t want you to see me like this!” he cried, the side of his face that you could see contorted with pain.
“What are you talking about?” you begged, squeezing his hand gently. “Please, Harvey, tell me what’s going on!”
He clenched his jaw, calming slightly and you could see the pain in his eye, the indecision. “I’m a monster.” he whispered, turning so you could see the horrific burns disfiguring the other side of his face.
You swallowed, heart aching as you cupped the still-whole side of his face, feeling the wetness of his own tears against your palm. “You’re not a monster,” you soothed, pressing your lips together tightly, “You’re Harvey Dent, the man I love.”
