The ‘Two-Minute Rule’ That Doubled My Daily Productivity
Hey, friend!
If you ever feel buried under a mountain of little tasks, this one’s for you.
I used to spend entire days putting off “quick” stuff, replying to emails, booking appointments, putting away dishes, until it snowballed into hours of catch-up. Then I discovered the Two-Minute Rule, and wow… game changer!
What Is the Two-Minute Rule? The idea is simple: If a task takes two minutes or less, do it immediately. That’s it. It’s a brain hack to beat procrastination before it starts.
This rule came from David Allen’s Getting Things done, but trusts me, you don’t need to read a whole book to use it!
How I Use It Every Day: When I get an email I can answer quickly, I reply right away. If I notice dirty dishes - I wash them instead of letting them pile up. Need to take out the trash? Do it now, not “later.” Thought of a quick text to check in on someone? Send it!
Why It Works Little tasks clog up our mental to-do list. When you knock them out instantly, you free up brain space and build momentum for bigger tasks. Plus, crossing things off your list feels so satisfying!
My Honest Take I still have days where I fall back into old habits, but the Two-Minute Rule makes it SO much easier to stay on top of life’s tiny clutter. It adds up to hours saved each week - and way less stress.
So, next time you think “I’ll do it later,” ask yourself: “Could I just do it now?” If it’s under two minutes, you’ll thank yourself later.
