bat banshee and owl for the spooky asks!
Hi River! I hope you're in for a treat
Bat - What’s your favorite creature associated with Halloween?
I've always liked vampires! While I can admit to not watching a lot of vampire related media because sometimes there is just Too Much Blood for me, I think vampires are fun and there are so many different stories you can come up with for them, whether they are good or bad, stereotypical or not, etc. Vampires are great
Banshee - Have you ever had a paranormal encounter? If so, do tell!
Alright, let me paint the picture for you. It's pre-plague, and I'm at college. Most of my classes I had with another friend, so I was rarely alone walking across campus. Still, if the conversation ever lulled, I would, quite often, randomly get row row row your boat stuck in my head. I had no idea why, my friends would laugh along with me day after day whenever I realized it was there for no apparent reason.
Now you might be wondering why this is important.
We get to creative writing club one night and it is a low focus night for everyone. Pretty much, no one is writing. Someone's taken over the computer hooked up to the projector, has turned it on, and as they're aimlessly looking for something to do, discover a presentation on supernatural occurrences around campus. Now, among these is the fact that everyone believes the old library building (now offices) is haunted by the ghost of one of our previous school presidents. We go to look up the president more, and my friend discovers he was the person who wrote the music and lyrics for row row row your boat. I, naturally, am terrified. Now, the old library is one of the buildings he helped design for campus, and one of the only ones he designed that remained. We decide no one's writing, let's go pack up and explore some of these ghost spots. We cross the street and stand outside of the old library cause it's closed for the night, and we see the natural signs that convinced everyone its haunted: the lights outside on the porch are flickering, and there's a light in the highest window flickering. My friend goes to take a picture of the building to try and point out to us what she believed was a face in the window, and she catches a fucking ghost orb. So anyway I was probably haunted by the ghost of one of our old school presidents and still don't know why.
Owl - What creature would you have as a familiar?
Honestly probably gonna go basic here and say a cat. I'd love to have a cat familiar just hanging out
(ask game here)
How about multiplies of five for the book asks?
5. Is there a book you own, but aren’t planning on reading?
I have a couple. I have an old book 'The Plays of John Galsworthy' which I bought as an HPRP prop.
Big green book seen here:
10. Have you ever judged a book by its cover?
Definitely. I was in a book shop with my friend last week and picked up a beautiful book I saw on the shelf super excited to see what it was but I was disappointed when I noticed it was a crime book (which really isn't my genre). Conversely, I will very rarely buy a book if the cover is a picture from the film/tv show. I like my books to look nice.
15. Favourite fiction genre?
Fantasy. I love an alternate world, I love a book with magic in it. Reading is escapism to me so I want to be taken away when I read.
20. Do you read e-books?
No, but I listen to audiobooks.
25. In what condition do you keep your books?
As good as possible. NO folding pages, NO leaving the book open to keep your page. I could cry when the spines bend. One must be as gentle as possible with books. Scruffy books don't look as good on a shelf anyway.
30. What character do you connect with the most?
This is a horrible question for me, because I can't bring an answer to mind. So, considering my current read - Lord of the Rings - probably Sam. He has burst into tears on multiple occasions, he loves stories, he finds joy and wonder in the world and he is determined to stick by his friends. Also, he names his daughter Elanor (Ellie is short for Eleanor in my case) so I love him a lil bit extra for that too.
