The day that I heard about Tyre's passing it hit me hard. Tyre was only three blocks away from our school, a place where we should feel safe. The Black Student Leadership Association at Columbus College of Art & Design decided that we wanted to honor this child and his family by making a community mural to show to his family that they have our support and hearts during such an awful time. We spent a total of 12 hours working on this mural with the members from BSLA as well as helping hands from the CCAD LGBT group and others that just wanted to help. Looking at his face over and over again for hours was probably one of the most emotional things my group has had to do. We look at him and see ourselves, family members or loved ones and realize that, that could’ve been us.
