coffee break | (edmure and lysa tully) (closed)
Edmure sighed as he splashed water on his face, and tried to clean off some of the blood on his clothes. It wasn't his, of course, but walking around with blood everywhere - even with the situation as it is - was a little unsightly. The sky was a beautiful shade of orange and purple, as the sun hung low in the sky, almost as if it were a child protesting the need to go to bed.
Despite the late hour, the hospital compound was bustling with activity - soldiers making their rounds, medical staff heading to and from their posts, civilian refugees doing their best to keep busy. It was a miracle the whole place had managed to retain electricity and clean water, and for the moment it was a refuge away from the outside world, away from the cold hard truth that lay beyond the safety of the hospital's walls.
But Edmure had to face that truth daily, as part of his work. It wasn't exactly pleasant, what he did, but he would do anything - give anything - to keep his family safe. And besides, there was some small measure of satisfaction at putting people's fears and doubts to rest. Whether it was finding the target alive and well, or having to put it down, most people were satisfied with whatever outcome he came back with. (Everyone hoped it would be the former, of course, but these days people took what they could get.)
Glancing at his watch, he reckoned it would be around the time his sister would be on her scheduled break from her duties, so he decided to pay her a visit. It had been a while since they had spoken - even if technically his boss was also his brother-in-law. Heading to the coffee stand outside the main hospital building, he ordered two cups. The dark brown drink was as plain as coffee could get, and considering the circumstance even he couldn't complain.
He shouldered the doors open and headed straight up to the staff break room, the aroma of coffee in his nostrils almost blocking out the smell of blood and disinfectant rank in the corridors of the hospital. It seemed he had good timing this evening, as he saw Lysa loosening her hair from its bun and sitting down at one of the empty tables in the room.
"Hey." He called out as he approached the table. "Brought you a drink." Edmure set down a cup in front of her and took the chair opposite. He blew a little on the surface of the drink, trying to cool it down, then took a cautious sip.
"Busy day?"
