I don’t usually set resolutions, but I am literally doing so for 2021. I’ll be setting a daily specimen from type in the shop, working towards a specimen book and daily journal. I started with Parsons, designed by Will Ransom. Nicknamed “the man from Snohomish” he started printing in Washington state then packed up for Chicago to learn from Fred Goudy. Parsons was designed with extra long ascenders and descenders which were overused so much that the foundry included a warning to avoid such crassness. Ransom didn’t tackle much more type design—perhaps broken-hearted at the misuse of Parsons—but he went on to correspond with and catalog many private presses of the day, creating an invaluable record. ..... Wishing you a new year—with just enough ascenders and descenders. #metaltype #willransom #typecrush #printtherapy (at Tacoma, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJhcXfYhQq3/?igshid=1qsqfs4oicdxv
