Types of feeding bottle nipples
That bringing up a baby is not easy will be the testament of a number of new parents. There are a number of decisions to be made, when it comes to choosing the correct product for your baby. One of such products is a feeding bottle nipple.
While this might not seem like such a confusing question at the outset, in reality, a wrong choice of the feeding bottle nipple might actually disrupt the baby’s feeding pattern.
While buying a feeding bottle nipple, go for the one that seems to fit comfortably in your baby’s mouth. But this is easier than done, given the numerous feeding bottle nipples available out there.
3 basic types of feeding bottle nipple which you can choose from are-
Orthodontic: the nipple here is flattened to look and feel more like a breast.
Angled: the nipple here is slanted so that it automatically tilts into your baby’s mouth.
Vented: the nipple here has a tiny hole in it so as to let the air into the bottle while the baby sucks the milk. Such a nipple also prevents gas problems in a baby.
Thera are also different sizes of nipples available-
Preemie nipples-this is usually provided by and in the hospital depending on the age of the baby. Nipples for newborn babies (0-6 months) and nipples designed for babies (6-12) are designed differently. The feeding bottle nipple for older babies have slightly larger holes so that it also becomes easier to feed them formula if required. Preemie nipples for younger babies have smaller holes in their nipple so that just the right amount of milk is suckled by the baby without the fear of them gagging or choking due to too much consumption.
The type of feeding bottle nipple is an important factor to keep in mind while buying feeding bottle for a baby. If the baby is not comfortable with the nipple, then he won’t feed properly giving rise to other problems.
