The Hotel Carlton vertical sign hangs six-stories tall on the corner of this tourist hotel in the Tender Nob. RKO clearly owned the Orpheum Theatre with "excitable" letterforms in neon for this run of the 1931 movie "Cimarron". Orpheum Theatre was builit in 1928 at 1922 Market Street. It has had many owners and transformations, but is still going strong as a live performance venue featuring Broadway shows. The Crown Theatre was located at 2555 Mission Street, directly across the street from the New Mission Theatre. The tall vertical blade sign was changed to Cine Latino in the summer of 1974, and screened Spanish-language films until the theater went dark in 1987. The Dr. Lee Roy Chiropractor neon sign and clock (far left side of photograph) still projects out over the sidewalk, now it is a bilingual sign that says Quiropractico/Chiropractor.
