I’ve watched “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” and I’m a little bit confused, because, on the one hand, it’s a very pretty old musical, with old-school country music, very good voices and amazing dance numbers, on the other hand, the plot lives much to be desired. I mean, I don’t mind the beginning, and (Spoilers!) that Milly felt for Adam from the first sight and agreed to marry him. And then, when she taught all the brothers good manners (and, well, just common hygiene) and how to behave well (especially around girls, yes) and how to dance (and the scene when they were all dancing is just great) – was also very good (maybe, we can also find problems in this part of the plot, but comparing with the next, these problems are probably just nothing). But then! They actually kidnapped all the girls! Yes, Milly made them sleep in the barn for the punishment, but then they all just reconciled with each other (and girls wanted to see the men during the winter) and when fathers came girls didn’t want to go and then they all got married. HAPPY END. I mean, what?! They abducted the girls. Literally. And them all the girls were afraid and cried and sought for the defence at Milly. And then just forgave the men. Well, on the other other hand, I understand that it’s very old (1954) and that it tells about much earlier, but still. I don’t like the message – you can steal a girl, who you like, live in a barn for a few months and she’s yours. Maybe, I’m too serious and it’s just a good old musical. And yes, even I with my bad memory for faces recognized the youngest brother – he was in “Westside Story”.
