‘Twas the Night Before Selma
‘Twas the Night Before Selma, and all through the college, The students were stirring, their brains full of knowledge. The suitcases were packed by the doorway with care, In hopes that a positive experience we would all share. The students were studying, or packing, or both, With visions of justice and serving and growth. And one leader, slightly panicked, procrastinated packing, Just one empty suitcase, and granola bars for snacking. When out of the blue there arose such a thought, A leader remembered this blog students sought. Away to the laptop, he flew like a flash, And wrote a new story, without batting a lash. When what to my typing fingers did appear, But a blog post on Selma, on a trip oh-so-near. To all the trip members, here’s what I say, Make the most of this trip, each and every day. I know it’ll be exhausting, and the days will be long, But we’re in this together, and together we’re strong. We’ll learn about justice, and civil rights too, And we’ll learn how to act when you don’t know what to do. We’ll meet other schools, with people like-minded, MEET AT 4 AM! ...just in case you needed to be reminded. Reflections will happen each and every night, We will support each other, through the dark and the light. And remember the hashtag, #UBinSelma2016, For all our trip lessons, and social media needs. We’ll make sure to document all that we see, I don’t know about you all, but I’m excited...high key.
