Crescent Flag of Moultrie, South Carolina, 1775
Colonel Moultrie had a large blue flag with a crescent made to match the troops holding Fort Johnson on James Island. The troops were clothed in blue and wore caps with silver crescents on the front inscribed with “Liberty or Death.”
Washington’s Life Guard, 1776
Washington’s Life Guard, the first secret service men, were hand picked from the thirteen Colonies to protect Washington during the Revolutionary War.
The Betsy Ross Flag
Commissioned June 1776, the stars were originally to have 6 points. Betsy Ross suggested 5 pointed stars as they were easier to cut out. This flag was adopted by Congress in June 1777.
