Squarepusher: “4001″ (Ufabulum, Warp 2012)

The lead track from Squarepusher’s 2012 full-length for Warp feels like a convergence of everything at which he excels: incredibly detailed syncopation, chopped up drums, punchy staccato bass, and a final product that splits the difference between jazz showmanship and electronic granularity. It’s also the closest thing to an anthem he’s done since “Do You Know Squarepusher” way back in 2002, a welcome headlong plunge into accessibility amidst his technical prowess on full display.
