Alexa Grasso submits Valentina Shevchenko in the 4th!!!!
Grasso steps into the counter on that spinning back kick BEAUTIFULLY and just pushes Shevchenko over to get the backpack and then the RNC. Once she was on that neck, she just refused to let go. That’s the upset of the year so far!

I’m not expecting Grasso to be competitive here. Shevchenko’s entire game is built around making fighters like Grasso look silly. But I really hope Grasso is able to find moments to be successful.
Derek Brunson out here jumping for guillotines, trying for armbars, and going for foot locks. He does not respect Du Plessis at all.

Jon Jones submits Ciryl Gane via guillotine in the 1st.
Jones finally did it. He is your champion at heavyweight. Gane looked completely lethargic and lost on the ground and on the feet. Was content moving and tried darting in with a left hand that left his rear completely exposed. Jones got to that side and got the takedown. From there, Gane just could not build his base for crap. Jones trapped his ankle and forced him to his butt along the cage where he jumped up for the guillotine.
Watching Shavkat is so stressful. Man’s head is always right there, sticking up in the air. Also his habit of letting guys put him on the cage.
Mateusz Gamrot takes SD over Jalin Turner.
A real damage vs control fight there, though I think Gamrot did more than others who are in similar situations. I think it was Fight Site guy Ryan Wagner who pointed this out but Gamrot is just not a control guy. He’s a transition guy. He thrives in starting grappling exchanges and beating people up in the chaos. Not in holding guys down. But he really wants to hold guys down. So you get guys who are big, long, strong and hard to control like Turner who are able to repeatedly build their bases to stand up when Gamrot takes them down. And props to Turner who was landing super well on the feet. Hurt Gamrot a few times per round it seems like. But Gamrot’s spam wrestling won it out for him in the end.
