Any witches who live in London? I live in east London and It’s so hard to find people who are on the same page in my area!

So I'm not actually allowed to practice how I would like to where I live rn. I'm leaving for uni in September so that should make it easier and allow me to become more confident in my practice.

But does anyone have any ways that they practice discreetly?

what is veiling?

veiling is the act of covering your hair/head! many religions use head coverings as a sign of respect and modesty. likely when you hear this, you think of hijabs in islam, or turbans in sikhism! many religions use their version of veiling and it is valid no matter the reason you choose to do it!

why do pagans/witches veil?

witches may choose to veil, no matter whether they follow a pagan religion or follow a pantheon of deities, simply to protect their head and third eye from negative energies in day to day life! people who are regularly connected to the astral realm may also veil to stay grounded to this plane and away from the “noise” so to say.

pagans to who follow a particular pantheon or religion may want to veil out of respect for a deity they follow and work with! an example of this is hellenistic paganism, in particular devotees of hestia. in greek and roman history, it was regularly seen for women to cover their heads. please note that veiling is NOT limited to women! men and non binary witches can also veil of course :)

how do i go about veiling?

as with most things in witchcraft and paganism, there is no set right or wrong way to veil! it is completely up to the witch.

some people prefer to partially veil, by enchanting a headband or hat to protect themselves from energies floating about. other witches may choose to use a bandana to cover the majority of their head and hair! many witches use scarves to fully cover their head, and either intertwine the ends into their hair as a braid, or also cover their hair too.

you can also choose when to veil. many witches only do it in the comfort of their own home, when they do spell work or prayers, or on sabbats and days important to their deities. many witches also choose to veil everyday, or only when they leave the house to protect themselves and show modesty, or too dedicate their day to their deity.

have fun with your veiling! use colour magic to invoke an energy you wish to carry for the day. ask your deity to bless you scarf, and enchant it! this is about proudly owning your faith and craft, so absolutely incorporating magick into it is the way to go!

final thoughts

however you choose to veil is right for you! never feel pressured to veil in a certain way that makes you uncomfortable or puts you in danger. never assume any other pagans reason for veiling, and have fun!

✨Cheap Witch Supplies: UK/EU ver.✨

I've seen loads of Americans/Canadians post about where they get cheap witch supplies, and I haven't seen a UK one yet so I thought I'd make one :)

•Flying Tiger

For those who don't have this absolutely adorable shop near them, it's basically IKEA, but it's Danish and it's generally known for cute little decorations, fun stationary and whole bunch of other things.

They have a massive range of candles here and they're fairly cheap! They generally range from 20p to £1 each and they pretty much have every colour you'll ever need. They also have big bags of herbs that are all just £1! I have lavender, basil, parsley and pink Himalayan salt from here, but they have all sorts of herbs and spices, pretty much everything you can think of, really. I also have two fake plants from Flying Tiger, and they're so cute! Both were about £3 each. They have so many markers and coloured pens/pencils too, which are really good if you want to write intentions or sigils in a specific colour

•Poundland

An obvious choice, but they have more than I ever thought I could find in a pound shop.

Obviously, they have candles and stationary, but one thing I didn't expect to find there was insence??? They have a good range too, like wtf?? They also have small bowls which are good for offerings if you work with deities or other entities!

Speaking of deities, if you're like me and you work with deities associated with love, desire, or anything similar, go to Poundland right. Now. They have so much heart and rose shaped shit bc it's almost Valentine's Day and it's all £1 each.

They also have cheap birthday candles which I think are easier to use than the bigger candles bc they burn faster, but if you wanna use the big ones then that's up to you.

•The Works

I was really surprised to find this, but The Works actually have a whole bunch of books on spells, tarot, Wicca, crystals, meditation, and witchcraft in general. They're all pretty fairly priced in my opinion, but if you wait for sales then you'll get even better deals.

I also found those clear glass jars lots of people like to use for spell jars. I think they're 6 for £1? I can't remember, but if you want to do spell jars, go to The Works. And they have the obvious stationary, but I think it's a little bit overpriced in there. Cute, but expensive.

What was also surprising to see were Oracle card sets??? Idk if they're for real or not bc I work with Tarot, not Oracle, but I've seen them in there before so if you want some cheap Oracle cards, there you go!

•Primark

I've also found some nice candles here, and they have those reed diffusers, if you're into those. But, the main thing I'm mentioning Primark for is the fake plants. They have big ones, small ones, hanging ones, potted ones, every kind of fake plant you can imagine, and they're a good price. I have two mini ones and they were like £2.50 each, so if you're like me and you kill plants unintentionally but you want plants on your altar, I'd recommend them as well as the Flying Tiger ones.
