The process for trying this beer went something like this: “Hurray, a new Summit! GAK that’s bitter!” I figured, given the slightly odd name of this brew, that it was part of Summit’s experimental Unchained Series, but that’s really all I knew going in. The 90 IBS tell you it’s going to be pretty darn hoppy, but I found this style to be far more bitter than I really care for. Having done a little investigation since trying it, I now know it’s one of a two part reimagining of Summit’s Saga IPA, with the 1st Thred “hoppy and intense” and the 2nd Thred more mellow. I wish I’d been able to try them both to compare and contrast, or even better, try them in a flight alongside the original recipe Saga. As a sampling experiment, I think that would have been great. As just a drinking beer with lunch, however, the 1st Thred was not to my taste.
