For the next week, I am doing an Online Campaign for my Women and American Politics class, to try to let people know of the under-representation of minority women in American Politics. For this week, I will be sharing statistics about minority women in politics as well as highlighting a few major women who have served in office. In a time where we have seemingly reached a major fork in the road in terms of civil unrest and a large portion of the country seemingly against the status quo of politicians seemingly being the stereotypical old, rich, white, male, it is important for women to get involved and try to make a difference to shatter what people believe to be the norm in politics. I hope, that by doing this and showcasing a portion of underrepresented individuals, that we can begin to have a serious discussion about having a more diverse government, that will hopefully relate more and understand their constituents that they are supposed to represent. To start off, I am sharing this video highlighting some big political firsts that occurred from the 2016 election. While much of the attention was given to who would become the President of the United States, women of color were making major strides in gaining positions in all areas of the political realm. Hopefully, this will be just the beginning of a major political revolution.
