[ Joint Statement on the Delay of the Implementation of the Undi 18 Bill ] The Malaysian Students’ Global Alliance is concerned with our government’s commitment to the Undi18 bill in light of the decision made by the Election Commission of Malaysia to postpone the implementation of the Constitutional Amendment that lowers the voting age to 18. This amendment was due to be implemented in July 2021, but has been postponed by more than a year to September 2022. This amendment guarantees Malaysian youths’ fundamental right to participate in our political process. The postponement of Undi18 and automatic voter registration implementation means that Malaysian youths aged 18 to 20, which accounts for approximately 1.2 million youths’ voices are compromised and disregarded in the democratic procedure of voting during elections. Thus, in collaboration with 6 of our Member Councils, we call on Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to reiterate his commitment to table the changes to Article 119(1)(a) by ensuring that the amendment is in force prior to any future elections in according to the timeline that was agreed upon by the cabinet. Furthermore, we urge our government to uphold their responsibilities in representing the best interests of Malaysian youth and the public. #Undi18 #ManaUndiKami #SuaraBelia #Undi18Now #ukec #msga #masca #namsa #mp3m #msaj #masat #Repost @msgaofficial • • • • • • https://www.instagram.com/p/CM8asLDBny5/?igshid=15va3ud7r017r
