The halls were long and winding, a great place to walk off whatever was plaguing you. Even if that THING was HIM. Surely getting lost, unable to be found, was easy, right?

His voice had her spinning on her heels, religious garb flowing behind her from the sheer speed. She bowed at him, a quick, silent greeting before straightening.

"No, Papa," Came her immediate lie. But even through the face paint, her sudden nerves were visible. Her eyes glanced to the side, not at all hidden. "What would make you think that?"

really, he didn’t! it’s just that the kid has got that youthful gleam in his eye ; an excitement that is practically radiating off of him over the idea of being entrusted with assisting cooper howard for the day. starstruck — maybe that’s the word he’s looking for.

yes, that’s definitely it, cooper finally thinks. the more he watches his wife’s assistant, it becomes more and more clear. young henry is a fan, starstruck over his boss’ husband. it warrants a laugh or two, all things considered.

“ c’mon, ” he retorts, leaning back against his desk, “ you mean to tell me that you didn’t have the faintest idea that she was gonna send you to help me today instead? goddamn, kid. you need to learn how to ask more questions. ”

shaking his head in amused disbelief, he reaches into his jacket pocket for a cigarette and lighter. then, after placing the lit cigarette to his lips, cooper takes a long drag from it. a cloud of smoke exhaled, he then holds out the cigarette box and asks, “ want one? ”

never let it be said that he isn’t a gentleman, at least.

　　𝐈𝐅 𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐇𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐓, she still hadn't recovered from the surprise she'd felt when they'd first gone to bed. he was always so buttoned up and-- well, not by the book-- but she'd thought he was a bit of a boy scout. certainly not the type to fool around while he was on a case. and by morning, it felt like they were picking up right where they left off. his hand on her hip. his mouth on his neck, keeping her pressed into him.

　　' don't you have places to be today, agent? ' she managed, her voice soft against his ear.

his eyes had only closed for a minute, maybe two minutes, but it was the sounds of his father’s footsteps which caused his eyes to open. lines of purple in varying shades sunk under his eyes, making the green of his iris’ more vibrant against his pallor complexion, which additionally made the lines appear darker than they were. paul purposely sat on the floor of the training room with his body facing the door, the words of gurney halleck & duncan idaho rang in his ears with reminders to never sit with his back to the open.

at the question, he reached a hand to the bridge of his nose & pinched the thin bone. his eyes ached from exhaustion. he couldn’t remember the last time he slept without dreams & yet, his head shook. “ i’m fine. ”

vera does not realize she passed out until she's already fully awake, plagued with a headache so terrible it leaves her wincing. she's on a bed far too big to be her own, far too comfortable to be a shitty motel. so, she panics, tries to reach around for her gun, her knife, anything-- but she has nothing. she sits up quickly even though it makes her almost puke, and then she realizes exactly who she's with. who brought her here. yorinobu arasaka-- the man she's been playing a strange game of cat and mouse with. if takemura had it his way, she'd be brainwashed into hating yorinobu and wanting to kill him, but that's not the case. not like it's his fault she was at the wrong place, at the wrong time. "why did you-- how-- are you stalking me? i passed out, you swooped in like my knight in shinin' armor, brought me here? 'cuz right now, that's really the only story i can come up with." she groans, running her hand over her tired face, smearing black makeup on her skin. / @ungestum

　　' it was um... a little too cold to go without clothing. ' kinsey managed, already beginning to fidget with the ties near the collar. ' did you want it back? '

if  ever  it  could  have  been  said  that  two  people  fell  safely  into  the  category  of  doing  nothing  wrong,  it  would  have  been  the  pair  in  question  ───  and  yet  demeanor  would  say  otherwise  as  everything  from  the  way  rogue  spoke  to  the  way  she  moved  carried  with  it  a  wary  quality,  suspicion  and  guilt  overlapping  to  make  her  appear  every  bit  the  scheming  conspirator  when  at  most  all  they  were  in  the  middle  of  was  a  friendly  conversation.  [  less  than  friendly,  truth  be  told,  but  that  was  her  own  fault.  though  yorinobu  had  earned  no  ill  will  on  his  own  merit,  names  carried  weight  ;  and  unfortunately  the  name  he  carried  was  especially  heavy.  ] 

cheeks  would  hollow  as  lips  closed  around  a  nearly  spent  cigarette,  the  expression  on  her  face  reading  as  exasperation  once  the  rudely  exhaled  plume  of  smoke  cleared  and  gaze  could  be  met  once  more. 

“ and  you  feel  like  this  is  the  time  to  be  vague?  really?  ”  another  drag  before  ashes  were  flicked  to  the  side,  arms  coming  to  cross  like  a  shield  in  front  of  her  body.  the  fact  that  the  nepo-prince  even  felt  the  need  to  give  such  obvious  ‘advice’  was  insulting  enough  on  its  own,  but  to  do  so  as  if  they  were  in  front  of  an  audience  and  it  wasn't  time  for  the  crowd  to  be  let  in  on  the  big  secret?  it  irked  rogue  in  a  way  which  she  truly  shouldn't  have  let  it.

　　𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐎𝐎𝐊 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐅𝐈𝐁𝐄𝐑 𝐎𝐅 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐁𝐄𝐈𝐍𝐆 not to just abandon him there in the woods to fend for himself-- he certainly deserved it a lot more than most-- and instead stay focused on finding a trail back to some semblance of civilization. after all, she was the only one who had a flashlight. she didn't mind turning enough to shine it in his eyes, justifiable enough.

　　' i have no reason to help you, so i'd appreciate if you made it less tempting to abandon you out here. '
