Over 300 million people in developing nations do not own even one pair of shoes. This concept -- a shoe made from one piece of foam rubber that is easily folded using a cut-out pattern -- could dramatically reduce that figure. It is affordable AND recyclable.

Printable, Foldable Shoes Could Solve the Footwear Shortage Abroad

It's coming to my attention that Horatio Yuxin Han may just be the real life Tony Stark of the footwear industry. Whether it's Origami inspired boots, electro magnetically charged shoes or shoes that can be folded and manipulated to create the upper silhouette, Horatio always throws an undeniably innovative & creative punch to all of his concepts.

'UNIFOLD is an experimental project with Professor Crowley that explores ways to construct footwear with a one-piece die cut pattern. Made of EVA material, this design is easily recyclable and could be built without a last.' - Harotio

Affordable and easy to construct, Unifold could solve the world-wide shoe shortage crisis. Made from foam rubber material ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), Unifold shoes reduce complicated procedures required in footwear productions, such as molding, lacing, sewing, and gluing. The simple design of Unifold makes it easier to manufacture, while dramatically lowering costs. In fact, Unifold could possibly take the production process out of the picture; Han’s shoemodel could be downloaded and then printed out. You simply cut and fold a sheet of foam rubber, following the proper design pattern. Currently, Unifold is still in the preliminary stages, Han and team are working hard to bring Unifold shoes to the market. There are two patterns of Unifolds: an Asian-style slipper, and a more intricately detailed sandal.
