I tried to translate "Fig Smoke" by ZUTOMAYO!
Translated Lyrics:
I want to smoulder as I hold on Forget and take cover The more I speak the less clear I get, nothing but the truth of the fig tree¹
For example, win or lose, regardless of however I'm swayed Even in when I'm playing the loser, I feel like I've won Ridiculous Rhymes, my method to make you realize Don't spoil, get on by with only a whisker
Cuz' I know there ain't much special about me
Since there's no Bloom du Jour Moments to phrases, a smouldering "How do you do?" I'm not the type to get the wrong idea Raising these well-mannered well-ripened secrets
To think I'm being saved without my asking Try not to say things for certain By your side even by chance Even just that, is the perfect kind of muddling
These days, the logic I kept tucked away between my thighs Just keeps getting in the way! I can't make it out, word for word Only as much as my soft heart can bear
My unreliable better judgement
Since there's no Bloom du Jour Moments to phrases, a smouldering "How do you do?" My skin that never gets the wrong idea Raising these well-mannered well-ripened secrets
The sight of your cheek as you read the manual Puts me at ease I'm fascinated, yet I fasten my gaze… why?
Could you even think up a Chinese Elixir Better than a night like this? I know, I know and yet… why?
Convince me it was a trick of the mind My fruits keep aching to the point my restraint prickles Keep charming me so transparently But I can't just gloss over These clear feelings of mine, now can I…
There's no bloom even in the sunny spots A moment, a verse, a smouldering "Howd'you do?" So they don't get bent out of shape These well-mannered well-ripened secrets will do just fine
I want to smoulder as I hold on Forget and take cover I want to smoulder as I hold on Forget and take cover The more I speak the less clear I am, that's nothing but the truth word for word
Translation Notes:
1- The word for the Common Fig in Japanese is ichijiku; literally, "Flowerless Fruit", this is homophonous with the phrase ichiji ichiku; "Word for word" or "verbatim", used throughout the song. It should also be noted that "Fruit" in Japanese; 果実 kajitsu, has a clearer direct connotation with the metaphorical idea of fruit as in, "the fruits of one's labor" than it does in plain English. The former character; 果, ka, connotes "fruit" as well as "endings". The latter; 実, jitsu, connotes "fruit" as well its seed, and also "truth". Perhaps then, a fig tree could be interpreted as a literally meaning: an plain (flowerless) ending.
