Hi, i was just woundering, is turkey a muslim? Because most Turks are but she doesnt seem to be one
Hello, anon! Thank you for asking, it’s a nice chance for me to explain some misconceptions about Turks and Turkey in general, lol so beware it’s going to be a long answer.
Well officially Turkey is a secular country but as you said most Turkish people are Sunni Muslim. Now, the Turkish way of being Muslim is a bit different than other Muslim people. The majority of Muslims in Turkey are not practicing Muslims, plus Sufiism influenced Turks a considerable amount so there aren’t many strict rules like there is in Wahabiism allowing people to, kind of, do as they please? These differences in religious belief differ from region to region in Turkey as well though! People in western Turkey are mostly very secular compared to eastern Turkey. The eastern Turks are very religious in general, especially the South Easterners.
I personally based Nyo! Turkey on a thin line between the secular West and the religious East but either way I think she is Muslim in the end. If most people identify as Muslims and believe in God I think she would too even though she does not wear a hijab or fully cover herself. Not to mention the strict secular rule of the 20th century would affect her as well in that aspect.
To be honest, originally I was planning on giving her a hijabi modern outfit as well as her two other modern outfits but I think it would be wrong since in our belief(at least in my region) starting to wear headscarves and then suddenly stopping to is considered haram so I think she’d feel bad to do that every week or so lol
Ps. Believe me anon as long as a Turk does not state otherwise he/she will be considered Muslim in Turkey lmao
